Timmy's Journal - 19. Charity
This is a poem about charity, yes, I mention refugees. Just that I've been talking to lots of people the last few weeks about Canada's decsion to take in 25,000 Syrians. I don't blame them for wanting to escape and just settle and have a peaceful life. However, the resentment is already starting, from others who came to Canada but didn't get the Prime Minister meeting them at the airport, or have eveything provided to them on the spot.
Not fair and not fair to so many who suffer from lack of support in our society, our native tribes, newcomers who don't have the government starting intiatives to give them jobs ... why the Syrians? Cuz they are flavour of the month? We didn't do this for a lot of people in the world who deserved it - who were victims of horrible atrocities. No we didn't.
But I wish them well and I hope that they join us in trying to make this a better place, not just for the Syrians but for all the people here. Every-single-one.
Charity
Lights of red and green glow;
the colours of Christmas cheer.
Kids laugh and sing as they watch
old man winter bring snow each year.
Store windows hold gifts for me to buy.
Tables are laden with food and drink.
Parties with friends, pop everywhere.
We make paper chains link by link.
We offer up everything to refugees;
forgetting the poor and homeless.
Charity begins at home don’t forget.
It’s at Christmas they feel most hopeless.
So eat, drink, be loving and merry.
And a Happy New Year to you!
Remember to share the riches you bear,
comes back a thousand fold if you do.
