One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 52. like a falling leaf

.

Sonnet No. 103

Too often we might forget, communion

Is in the heart of communication –

And in its way, so too is discipline

Lost in the force of deliberation.

But content can be abstractly charted,

Like dolphin song on an X-Y layout,

Though we won't speak it, knowledge is imparted,

For the forty-five-degree cant leaves no doubt.

So too, expressions of love are genuine

When they don't fall to generalization –

And they can plot all the meaning herein

That points to substance without hesitation.

What language may yet try to discover,

Love's intuition can always uncover.

Sonnet No. 104

The other night, when you teased me and went to bed,

Did you really think I'd prefer my TV show,

And not trail you to where your silent footsteps led? –

Oh no, from the bedroom doorway I watched you go,

And settle yourself like a leaf upon the sheets;

One moment, eyes to the light, the next gliding down,

For every inch your body a graceful arc meets

When your head finally makes my pillow your crown.

But, it was the smile that you turned on me right then,

With its blend of love and observation,

That told me our best lovemaking would soon begin,

So I stepped to you in calm exhilaration.

I too felt like I was a falling leaf,

Settling on your body in disbelief.

Chapter Comments

I was immediately taken by Number 104. You brought me into that space and scene, made me feel as you did, see what you saw. This is a real joy to read.

So too is Number 103. We can not communicate solely by objective symbols on paper or screen. Some things can only be said by one’s presence, by the communion of two who choose oneness.

Thank you for these.

No 103 I undertand communication is more than digital communication one word=  one meaning, and I could not agree more with that. Especially in matter of love, there are so many levels. A very thoughtful sonnet.

No 104 Beautiful, vivid, connecting and leaves the reader with a smile on the face and an amazing image in mind.

Thank you, Lyssa, for the review and encouragement :) I really appreciate it

Thank you for your generous comments, Parker. I just went looking for a visual in support to what the poem mentions as a 45-degree cant, and found it in this interesting article.

Thanks again for your support :)

103 ... should be read by all who 'live online'. Though we meet and love here and there is a connections of sorts, but whether we be friends or more, we miss that true connection. The communion of touch, be it a hug or lover's caress is something we cannot experience. When Michael puts His hand on my shoulder and smiles at me, it tells me all i need to know.

104 ... There are times when lovers, husbands, seem suddenly new, yet the love you share is deep and abiding. It is not that hot, flash of new love and lust but the touch from a hand that knows your body. The teasing kiss, leads to an experience that has been repeated, maybe often, but this time it is both fresh and knowing.

Love them both AC.

Thank you for these comments, Tim. I appreciate them. Yes, online connections are both wonderful and limited at the same time. Thanks again for reading these and leaving me your support :)
