One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 56. our fashion of love
.
Sonnet No. 111
What intimidates more than a blank page? –
'Different' is far from complimentary,
But at least a comment's something to gauge
Better than apathy sedentary.
Yet, why let them bother me? – I'll push aside
The fact they shut down a wish to engage,
And instead pull to me my object of pride;
The fact of your love is strong tutelage.
Let your heart their lackluster lives upstage,
As your conjured image warms my passion,
But mellows my temper through gentle swage,
While teaching them to love after our fashion.
In emptiness is also potential;
And the will to fight every obstacle.
Sonnet No. 112
In the space I laid out for me to write,
A terrier paw bid me make him room –
So I shoved aside my art for you tonight,
And in place of sonnets, his comforts assume.
Nestling my chin on his fur, I extol
Your lovely Gina – pure white Angora –
Whose tender azure gaze touches your soul,
To let you see my blue eyes incognita.
But now, a happy kiss brushes my nose,
For the love that's in hand is always bliss,
The truth of which every Airedale knows,
When contact is joy beyond analysis.
In Gina see my calm when you look at her,
And in my dog, I'll feel your devotion stir.
