Bleu Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Music has been my drug for the past 2 years. My MP3 player is full of sad songs. To a few that have been mentioned already, I would add: - Ben Folds Five - David Gray - James Blunt "And I still hold your hand in mine when I'm asleep... I'm so holllow" The Rose - Bette Middler. - C
Tomas Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Some at the top of my list of sad songs: Forever Autumn - Justin Hayward from Jeff Wayne's musical "War of the Worlds". My Immortal - Evanescence Memory - Elaine Page from "Cats". There are others that reach the top of the list at various times, but it's a long list covering several genres.

NightOwl88 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I have a new one to add, 'Don't Laugh at me" By Mark Wills
John Doe Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Christmas Shoes - New Song What Hurts The Most - Rascal Flatts (I Agree with their song "Skin" too) The Last Kiss - Pearl jam There's more .... I'll think of others. (I agree with Just a Dream by Carrie Underwood too) Angels in Waiting by Tammy Cochran
PrivateTim Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I'll Be Home for Christmas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIq-jqm4Vdg&feature=related It became a symbolic song during WWII. I think of all the young Americans in Europe and the Pacific who heard it and never made it home for Christmas again. And God Bless America. Especially when sung by Ronan Tynan, he has become intertwined with that song and 9-11 for me.
JamesSavik Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 The Eagles - Sad Cafe Audio Link Out in the shiny night, the rain Was softly falling The tracks that ran down the boulevard had All been washed away Out of the silver light, the past came softly calling And I remember the times we spent Inside the sad cafe Oh, it seemed like a holy place, Protected by amazing grace And we would sing right out loud, the Things we could not say We thought we could change this world With words like "love" and "freedom" We were part of the lonely crowd Inside the sad cafe Oh, expecting to fly, We would meet on that beautiful shore in the Sweet by and by Some of their dreams came true, Some just passed away And some of the stayed behind Inside the sad cafe. The clouds rolled in and hid that shore Now that glory train, it don't stop here no more Now I look at the years gone by, And wonder at the powers that be. I don't know why fortune smiles on some And let's the rest go free Maybe the time has drawn the faces I recall But things in this life change very slowly, If they ever change at all There's no use in asking why, It just turned out that way So meet me at midnight baby Inside the sad cafe. Why don't you meet me at midnight baby, Inside the sad cafe.
Renee Stevens Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I agree with Alyssa Lies... there is also "Room With A View" by Carolyn Dawn Johnson... And though some people might thing I'm weird, "Waterfalls" by TLC... this was one of my brother's favorite songs, but the first time I remember hearing it was at his funeral "Looking for the Light" ~ Rick Trevino (parts of this song were me and my brother) Room With A View - The first time I heard this song was right after the death of a man who I considered a grandfather (though there was no relation) They gave you a corner room on the fifth floor The city lights were like candy to a kid in a store Like a king you'd lay in your bed so statefully So thankful they gave you a room with scenery You always were so healthy, so full of life So seeing you so helpless just didn't seem right And how you kept your head so high I'll never know I guess you knew you had a better place to go Now... You've got a room with a view A window to the world You always had your sights set high And now that you're gone Your memory lives on And I see you smiling in my mind With angels as visitors dropping by Your room with a view I'll always miss you I'll always feel the loss I have to remind myself that you're better off I gotta believe even through these tears of mine Wherever you are there's a sun that always shines And... You've got a room with a view A window to the world You always had your sights set high And now that you're gone Your memory lives on And I see you smiling in my mind With angels as visitors dropping by Your room with a view With angels as viitors dropping by Your room with a view Hoah 1
Kev de Cauchery Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Ha. That night I was in a bar by myself. I teared up just thinking about this Lady Antebllum's song. The highlighted was what get me. Need You Now - Lady Antebellum Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor. Reaching for the phone 'cuz I can't fight it anymore. And I wonder if I ever cross your mind? For me it happens all the time. It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now. Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now. And I don't know how I can do without. I just need you now. Another shot of whiskey, can't stopping looking at the door. Wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before. And I wonder if I ever cross your mind? For me it happens all the time. It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk and I need you now. Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now. And I don't know how I can do without. I just need you now. Oh whoa Yes I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all. It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now. And I said I wouldn't call but I'm a little drunk and I need you now. Well I don't know how I can do without. I just need you now I just need you now. Oh baby I need you now. 1
Menzoberranzen Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 How to Save a Life - The Fray Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And would I have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life This song always makes me think of someone I lost. You Could Be Happy - Snow Patrol 10,000 Miles - Mary Chapin Carpenter Menzo

*HJ* Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 These are linked to YouTube. ; it is a pretty powerful song about foster care. It makes me cry every time I listen to it for some reason. ; this used to make me cry when I had lost the love of my life. It prompted me to contact him again. Now it doesn't. I'm in class or I would listen to your song Johnny, later today. I read the topic and I thought "Oklahoma" by Billy Gillman. Haha you beat me to it! Tim McGraw's "Don't take the Girl" & Martina McBride's "Concrete Angel" always makes me misty too.
mr.chris Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 (edited) i dont usually cry from songs but i really like "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan sorry link didnt work but you can find it on youtube : ) Edited April 10, 2010 by mr.chris
*HJ* Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I can't help but cry when I hear this song, it's so sad Breathe Me - Sia I love that song! I first heard it on the german soap verbotene Liebe. It was the song playing during Oliver and Christian's awesome love scene! If you skip to about 3:30 the song starts there but I would watch the start as well!
Adam Phillips Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I will remember you by Sarah Mclahlan get's to me.. Some day you oughta read my story Crosscurrents. At least when it gets to Chapter 15. That song has a special relevance. What a great tune.
Adam Phillips Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'd never admit to crying over a song. But if I were to admit, I'd have to admit that I'm a sucker for the poignant tune. Particularly if it resonates with my own experience. Here's a song that was first sung to me, accompanied by guitar, by someone important in my life, not that long ago actually. Since then, it's been one of my maudlin-romantic favorites.

You are quite lucky and in the last chapter of ISWB i discovered the song "everything" by lifehouse. that's a really sweet one too. 1
Tommy_B Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Mannheim Steamroller's version of Silent Night. Don't know why but it is so melancholy it makes me cry.
nightsky Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 (edited) I'm not saying I cry to these, but they can put me in a mood... mazzy star's fade into you (just so depressing, really) sarah: I will remember you, angel, Pixies: wave of mutilation George Michael: to cheer myself up, I listen to something light and fluffy, like Metallica's ETA: How'd I forget Don't Give Up by Peter Gabriel? U2's One is still touching and goosebump inducing for me. Edited April 13, 2010 by nightsky
