Andy78 Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 The book was written as a serial 1862-1863, and first published in its entirety in 1863. It was written in an obscure language called English.
Andy78 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 More clues: The author was English and a member of the clergy. The protagonist dies early on, but is reincarnated.
Red_A Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 After this clue I thought of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson but Alice in Wonderland does not fit the bill. The other clergy man is Charles Kingsley. although I had passages read to me when a hild I never read this book, but the only book he is famous for is the Water Babies.
Andy78 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 It is from Water Babies by Charles Kingsley. I actually thought this would have been an easy one to guess, it was required reading when I was in school - obviously not big outside of the UK. Oh well. Your turn Red.
Red_A Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 "Ah, my heart, and a-a-a-ah my heart, My heart it is so sore, Since I must needs from my love depart, And know no cause wherefore..." Andy show know this, it is my secret!
Andy78 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I think I do know this, but I'll give someone a chance first
Andy78 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 This has me confused. I thought this pre-dated 1995 by quite a bit.
Red_A Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 One of the co authors a best-selling American author of fantasy novels, please note my first clue which was in the initial post Andy show know this, it is my secret!
Red_A Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 well I am surprised It is the first words from "Dragon in Distress" by Mercedes Lackey and Elizabeth Waters I thought I gave is away by referring to Andy's story which is Dragon Secrets and his avator which is a dragon in distress on a sheep. I thought Mercedes Lackey was the second most famous dragon fantasy author. First one here gets to continue
Zombie Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) Me! OK, here's an easier one! "Is it safe?" Edited May 23, 2012 by Zombie
Andy78 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I know this line from two books. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by J R R Tolkien Marathon Man by William Goldman I hope either answer is correct
Zombie Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I must admit Andy I'd forgotten the LOTR line. I've just looked it up and it's wrapped up in a longer injunction "Is it secret, is it safe?". Plus it's a bl***y long book and it's a while since I read it Yep, it's the second - quite a short novel really. Surely the most chilling words you will ever hear from a dentist ... especially if he's got you strapped securely into his chair So, your turn
Andy78 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 They were in the Smoky Mountains at their favorite bed-and-breakfast. David was smiling down at her. 'What do you say, gorgeous? Marry me?'
Andy78 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 OK, clue time. This is not a musty, dusty, fusty book by some dead guy with English as a third language. The author is American and this is from their first published novel.
Andy78 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 More clues: It was the authors first published novel, but probably not their most famous. This is one of two novels which have not yet been made into a film (the other novels have been)
comicfan Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I know I read this book. My mother bought it caught it was a thriller and her type of story. For the life of me I can't remember but I'm going to go through her stuff. I know it isn't Mary Higgins Clark. Maybe Dan Brown.
Frostina Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 She thought about how marvelous is would be to have a wife keeping the house in order, the meals on the table. At the same time it seemed ridiculously unfair that she could never have a wife. In fact, if she married, she would be expected to be the wife.
