My girlfriend was named Mary Address, and I met her through another sailor's girlfriend after I had been in Mobile for two months.

Posted Image Does that make sense?

well, it sort of does. :P

besides, i didn't write it! :P i just quoted it! ;)

Soooo, clue time. Like where and when was this published?

Posted

The book was originally published as a fourteen consecutive day series of installments in a newspaper in 1955.

Hmmm, so that is a big clue.

Also, it's a non-fiction piece. :D

**Takes Frosty out back and forces her to read a story full of punctuation errors, word confusion, spelling mistakes and really bad grammar**

I officially have no clue Posted Image .

I will leave this one in the highly skilled hands of my esteemed and learned colleague Mr Zombie. Over to you!

Posted

Ha! That would be the Zombie that, so far, has only correctly guessed one of the literary puzzles presented to the combined brains in this thread.

Brains? Braaiinss!! *slurps greedily*

(and equally cluelessly Posted Image )

It's not THAT obscure! :P

sheeesh!

Okay, since you people haven't figured me out yet, Here's one more clue: this is NOT originally written in English.

Posted

It's not that South American story about a shipwrecked sailor with the really long title? Can't remember the title (The Shipwrecked Sailor is about all I can recall of it, it's about 40 words long) or the author, but this is as good as my guess is going to get.

Never read it, but there was a question on a quiz show recently about a story in newspaper in Spanish and the clues seem to fit.

Posted

 there you go, Andy! :P

pick your brains enough, and you are almost there!

*is wondering whether or not to just say the title and pass the torch to Andy*

Posted

Frosty for the first time my college shelf failed me. What is it with you and stuff in translation? :P We have enough problems with the stuff in English first. lol.

Posted (edited)

Since no one else is even attempting to... Posted Image

Andy, you got it partially right, so, its all yours now! *bows out* ;)

It's 'The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor' By Gabriel García Márquez

ps: Since Andy did mention the hugeass title, here it is. The full title is The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor: Who Drifted on a Liferaft for Ten Days Without Food or Water, Was Proclaimed a National Hero, Kissed by Beauty Queens, Made Rich Through Publicity, and Then Spurned by the Government and Forgotten for All Time.

Waits for Andy to post. In the meantime begins cataloging Frosty's collection of books in translation.

"The animal was huge and dark, with legs thick as pillars, drooping ears, a stiff pointed beard. It had just sensed the young man's presence."

Posted

A beard ? Hmmm maybe egyptian but just a guess ...

Posted

Egyptian. Hmm. Well then if you are looking at males and Egyptians it could be about a pharaoh or one of the Gods but there are many many choices. Hell how about a clue? Otherwise we will never narrow it down. Hell I have tons on Egyptians and this does slightly ring a bell. I'm going to have to go down stairs later and dig through my Egyptian stuff. When it comes to old myths and legends I read lots of that. lol.

Following the lead of our great Frosty, this was not originally written in English

**looks for the Cricket Bat to hit people with the next time they complain**
