How in the hell does a brand new air conditioning unit stop working!!

Check the date of manufacture on the outside unit and make sure it's 100% brand new and not just "brand new to your house."  Landlords can do some really shady mess when it comes to replacing big ticket items.

Went all Halloween this morning at the casino. Got up at 2am, decided to wear Halloween socks and my Converse skull shoes. Also I have a egg sized carved pre Columbian skull so took it as a card protector. Forgot about the skull and for the first hour didn't win a single hand.

Brought out the skull and rested it against my chip stack and that's all it took. Two hours later, $1850 up. Left around 6am and ended up profiting just over $2000.

All hail the skull!

Hope everyone else has a good day too!

Not sure how many of you still work or how long a commute you have if you do but I'm curious about the traffic in your area.

I tend to go to the casino at 2am or so and generally come home at 6am. Almost to the minute every day. It's about a 18 mile ride to either of the two casinos, in almost exact opposite directions from my house. Lots of weeks I'll go every morning so I see the beginnings of rush hour in the DC area.

It's weird but it seems like there's always more traffic on Wednesday morning than any other morning. I can't really figure out why that is the case but it is.

How about in your area?

There is no rhyme or reason to traffic in my area (Sarasota/Bradenton). Snowbirds and tourists affect traffic on a daily basis. I found that in the morning if I  leave my house later than 620 it adds a few minutes to my commute. Coming home is always a crap shoot.

This morning was an anomaly. I didn't hit one single red light in the whole 15 miles. I thought I was in an episode of The Twilight Zone.

Have a nice Friday everyone!

I live in a rural area of NC in a mid sized town of about 25,000, so we don't really have that big of a rush hour compared to D.C.  However, on Fridays around lunch time, traffic is just crazy. People here don't believe in direct deposit, so they're out getting their paychecks cashed.

I don't miss the traffic in DC at all. On a good day, it would take me 45 minutes to drive 24 miles to my mother's house. On a bad day, it would be 4 hours. Nothing like having to cool your jets on the American Legion Bridge while they land a Medivac chopper to an accident scene.

I know someone has told me no more ranting, and if I get tossed because of it so be it, but if I don't let off steam I may pop a cork. If you don't feel like reading, by all means skip on!

A little background. My mother in law hated me and did everything she could to disrupt my life. She is gone now, so things have improved greatly, but one of the things that came from that is i no longer tolerate people giving me  shit I don't deserve. No more "keeping the peace".  You treat me with no respect you get told to shove it and that is that.

So, Mid week my son in law ( well, no marriage, just together forever) wrecks his car. It's the only wheels in the family, so Mom's Taxi service kicks back into gear.

This morning I got up at 4 am to pick him up and get him to work by 5.  Plan was for me to drop him and be home again before hubby leaves for work, saying goodbye and me going back to sleep for a couple hours.  Then when I picked jr up after his shift I would drop him and pick my girl up to hit the barn and get chores done, hang with the horse a bit then lunch.

I sit in their driveway from 4:15 to 4:45 texting and calling every 10 min and getting no response. Ten minutes of I call her number. She wakes him up, with 10 min to get dressed and my getting him to work. At least it's only 10 miles down the road.

Sit in the parking lot at the jobsite as his boss (who has the keys to the building) is late. He finally shows up 5:45. I go home, more sleep is not in the cards, I am now thoroughly awake.

I decide to prep the roast for dinner and let it marinate in the fridge till evening. You guessed it, he gets done early and where am I ? I was supposed to pick him up after work. (Not for another 30 minutes, and that was assuming he was done his quota by quitting time, he did start 45 minutes late)

Get to their house, she isn't feeling well and cancels. No biggie. I tell him to send her out so we can plan next week and I can pay her for the work she did this week, so she has cash for the Renaissance Festival this Sunday.

Out they come together, and he starts spouting in a nasty tone how I blew her big secret, SHE hadn't told him she was going to the Ren Fen, SHE just said she had plans with friends, I had blown her big secret, SHE knew he would have wanted to go, etc etc etc

Fine. I put the truck in gear, say so sorry I caused a fight in a somewhat nasty tone myself and drive away in tears. He is hollering at me that I am being stupid and come back here right now.

Then he sends a text saying my reaction was uncalled for. Yes, knowing I am driving and already upset.

He tries 5 or more times to call me. Of course, I am driving so I don't answer.

When I get to my driveway I read all the texts and voice mails then send a text to my daughter saying basically

1) If something is a secret either dont tell me or tell me its secret

2) I got up at 4 am to get him to work, and my repayment is to catch crap that I tattled on you?

3) My behavior in leaving was uncalled for? (his exact words in the text) Uncalled for is giving me crap in the driveway because she didn't tell him about the trip plans

4)If they want to live separate lives under one roof that is their business, leave me out of it!

5) I hope he enjoys riding his bike to work the 10 miles in time to be there for 5 am. I will not be getting up at 4 am to drive him in  again.

The response I got was from him. He was just teasing, I am over reacting.

Well maybe I am. I am short on sleep ( got up 3 hours early to drive him in) I am very tired of his dismissive attitude, which stems back thru the 3 years he lived in my house rent free before Wings inherited a house from her grandmother. I was not supposed to have any ground rules that applied to them, they were adults. In the 2 years since they moved out I have never once been invited into their home, and the only times I have been inside were because I needed to use the powder room before leaving when picking her up or dropping her off. He made it quite clear I was not welcome in "their" home (She owns it outright) and I am only welcome as an influence on their lives when it benefits them. Let me ask for something its too much to ask.

Ok rant over. I now return you to the regular Friday routine.  Hope you and Mike are enjoying your day off @Mikiesboy, The rest of you hang in, weekend is coming!

Sounds like your mother-in-law has found a way to channel herself from beyond. Damn he sounds like a spoiled brat 5 year old.

Smart move cutting off the personal taxi service.

Don't worry about the ranting.... it's all good. We all need an outlet sometimes!

Hope you have a better weekend Kitt.

I live in the suburbs of a fairly large ohio city, and work in another suburb of it. I use a major highway to travel the majority of the  17 mile trip.

I usually work a 930 to 530 or 6 time frame and it's usually about 25 mins going in and about 40 coming home, can be more if I leave closer to 530 than 6.

If I have to be there before 8am it's usually close to an hours drive.

Does any particular day or days seem more crowded? That's what I find unusual here. It seems Wednesday is the most crowded morning traffic.

College town, so traffic is really light during the summer; heavier during the school year; and 🦇💩 crazy on home game days (like today).

It sort of makes sense...

If people are taking a long weekend then it's usually Fri-Mon...or Thurs-Sun... or Sat-Tues.

Wednesday is the red-haired step child of the week. People are like... f@#! it...I might as well work.

No he wasn't teasing. No you aren't over reacting. Yes, he's using a classic gaslighting technique. Yes, he is pissed off and back peddling because you aren't falling for any of it.

You are owed a big apology.

And paraphrasing @Mikiesboy, rant away! We're here for you.

@Mikiesboy hi sweetie

🚙🚘🚖🚕🚗🚛🚖🚕🚗 traffic stinks! i was in the office all last week and will be next week as well. what a shock to the system THAT was! it did seem that Monday was the worst & Friday the easiest. i wonder if, coming out of this, most employers are still having people work from home. Monday might be an "all hands" kind of day.

y'all take care ❤

His reaction is the ultimate chutzpah of a spoiled and entitled brat in my book. You have no need to apologize for anything.

As for ranting? Rant all you need or want. We will always listen.

the traffic here is not bad i live in a small town of 25k people. The only busy Road is the Main Drag by the Shopping Center.

Before the pandemic the traffic here was exactly as you describe. Monday the worst, Friday the easiest. It's only since the return of a lot of people to their offices that it's changed to Wednesday being the most traffic day. Of course that's only the portions of the two main roads that I travel on.

I'll have to remember to check the traffic reports on the mornings when I don't go to the casino to see where the traffic jams are that aren't caused by accidents or some other issues like road construction.
