I had a budgie when I was a kid. He was called Pippin. After Pippin the Short (who is, in Norwegian, called Pippin the Little; my dad named him, ultimate dad joke). He lived for a fairly long time. He was already pretty old when we got him, around 1991 or so, estimated over 10 years old, and he didn't die until 1999. He was so beautiful. Yellow head, wonderfully shiny turquoise chest. 

 

My granddad taught me the songs of all the birds of the forest. He knew everything. :heart:

My granddad passed away last year, a couple of weeks after his 90th birthday. He'd been in hospital for a long time, it was his time. Still broke my heart, though.

Getting milder - and I heard the blackbird singing in the dusk on my way home. Melodious and characteristic, as @Thorn Wilde says. :yes:  But I guess it can be annoying at 5 am and right outside your window.

I have so much birdsong around me in spring and summer. It's joyful. :)  Sorry for my ignorance, but do you get spring sooner than us?
