He's pretty well safe... The Piedmont cops are behind him, and Lonesome Valley is sending a cruiser to escort him in from the county line... I'd call that safe, except perhaps for the minor detail that he's driving at high speeds, fleeing for his life from the deputies of someone who now very much wants him dead.

Well, THIS goat survives out here in the Arizona wilds quite well, and Echidnas, well, the seem to cope in a strange and bizzare land (Australia) so who knows? 0:)

As far as the cliffhanger, on the "official CJames Cliffhanger" scale between 1-10, I believe it came in at a 2.5. Great job, much appreciated :worship:

ACK! Oh no... Not that!

The Echidna will turn me into a pincushion! :o

Anyone want to hide a goat? Please???

I'm glad you liked it. It was a fun chapter to write.

There are indeed some clues in this and prior chapters as to what is to come next, and the next chapter uncovers a whole lot of things, many of which have been ongoing mysteries. I'm not sure I should give any clues (looks around nervously for the Echidna)... Ok, he's not here, so I'll mention a few subtle hints based on what is in the posted text:

There is something that connects the last chase (the one in the Jeep) with this one, and it leads to something big. There are several clues in Ch 26.

There was a big dose of forshadowing in Ch 24 regarding something in Ch 27. There was also something big in Ch 25 regarding Ch 27. (the title of Ch 25 was very meaningful).

And one other clue: Ch 27 will precede Ch 28. 0:)

Thanks!

Is it me, or if you read this passage by CJ, that he has admitted that he used a cliffhanger of 2.5 on his cliffhanger scale?

Don't let the goat deceive you into believing anything else.

We finally have the evidence. :lmao:

Umm, as the goat attorney, I call it an edit made by someone else it makes no sense that he himself would say that it was a great job,,, :P

I just finished reading this story in the last couple of day.

Its really a good read but I just skipped thru the slow parts to the parts that moved the story along.

Gosh, I can really relate to Chris a lot because I came from a strict family.

When you come from a strict family - its more like prison and being a closed society.

I am glad that Chris had the fortune to be so lucky to find the perfect place for a new start in life.

I guess in the real world not too many people would be as lucky as Chris.

Could you imagine Chris life if he did not meet Steve?

I think I could, he be like me right now.

I can see why Steve being a lawyer since Eric gave him lots experience.

I not exactly sure why Chris is pre-med unless that was his original parents idea of get a good trade and be set for your future in life?

I guess you can say we don't know too much about Chris but only a glimse.

I am amazed that Eric didn't got shot with his own dart gun but again I am not sure about meth and ketimine having a reaction that would probably kill Eric out of the story. I wonder if Eric had any thoughts of fortune on that possibility. I think in the end of the story he probably did think about those incidences that his brother(s) would not really that bad of people and that he owed them that much to help them in turn they help him with his dreams to start a new life. It seems a new life for all of them before the mess started when Chris got into town.

I am amazed that Thaddeus did not get like a burnt leg or something , kinda like a poetic taste of his own medicine before any of the good guys would put out the flames.

 ..........How could you possibly say that about a probable 'serial killer' in the making!!! ERIC is EVIL, a satan incarnate!! <_<

I suspect that Eric will still be a problem if and when there is a sequel. He can be good, but he definitely has a dark side. Drugs can change people, but I believe that side of him still exists even without the drugs. I still think he's evil, but not quite as evil as his father and his uncle. However, I think he can be called the anti-villain as he actually saved the day in the end.

 .........Let's see, he shot the sheriff, took the money, left his brother alive cause had he killed them the cops would be on his trail. Fed his brother a bullshit story and said he was sorry, which his brother took hook, line & sinker. Saved the day my ass, he saved himself!!

Thanks for reading and for the feedback, HH! :)

Chris was indeed lucky in some ways. However, not so lucky in others. His boyfriend's younger brother was a bit of nuisance at times. 0:)

Sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time. I hope things get better. Feel free to talk about it if you want; this forum has a lot of great people in it.

Good point on Chris; I never did cover why he wanted to be a doctor, just that he does. He likes helping people, and he's had a hard time financially, so i figured it would be a good fit. This is one of the goofs I made: this was my first try at writing a novel, so it's rough in places, with parts like that that need fleshing out, and other parts that need trimming down.

Thaddious got to see his church, his pride and joy, plus his wealth go literally up in flames. He also got to go to jail. :)

Eric... Eric was.. complicated. Did he change in the end? yes, and no. Drugs made him worse than he would otherwise be, but drugs tend to amplify bad personality traits, not create them. He had some mitigating factors; he had Thaddious and the Sherif as his influences, but he continiously turned his back on the William's (Steve's parents). In the end, it was a mixed situation. He felt some remorse for what he'd done, and also realized, too late, what he'd lost. But those feelings were not strong enough for him to be seriously hurt. Some of the things he did at the end were genuine; for example, once he had the money he did stop to say goodby to Steve. He also took a risk trying to save Veronica. He's no saint, that's for sure, but he's not a total monster in my view. However, that might have just been a god day, too. The story was Chris's, so we can't see Eric's thoguhts.

Steve didn't fall for Eric's story, not fully. He was skeptical, and thus unsurprised when Eric popped up on TV, fleecing the flock.

I think it's high time I got back to work on the FTL sequel, which is in 3rd person, so we do get to see all the answers, in the end. :)

He did indeed save the day, and go riding off into the sunset, with a suitcase full of cash. :)

We'll see him again, soon. :)

Well, yes, he saved himself, but you've always been so hard on poor, misunderstood Eric. :):P

I read the parts I skim over. Sort of getting the sex parts all in one read.

Question: Did Steve and Chris have as much sex sex as Steve and Billy?? or Is Steve holding out?

Any chance Chris , Steve , and Chad will do a threesome? (joke) Veronica won't like but Rob and Joe would

I re-read the Eric and the Camping Part

Question: So did Eric Empty Steve and Chris Accounts again?

Question: Why is Steve and Chris responsible for the tower? Dex did it , technically? So , Dex parents would be resposible since he is under 18??

Sounds like tower only suffer equipment damage.

They could have loss all that money and not have much for college.

I presume in later settlements of Thadeous fortune - they get more $$$

Question: So Peidmont - has no Sheriff nor deputies

So Lonesome - has Sheriff and Sg Williams and one other deputy

Why hasn't Piedmont Settled?

Who is running the Piedmont Sheriff Dept?

Is Sheriff B retired now?

btw, Isn't Piedmont DA corrupt too?

What becomes of the dead sheriff property and stuff?

Does the boys win any thing from that?

The amount of sex you see is rather misleading; There's only three actual scenes, but I do allude to or obliquely mention sex occuring many times, so Chris and Steve are indeed quite active (well, after they finally get together, anyway).

I only write a sex scene if I feel that is is necesarry for thr storyline. Otherwise, I'll do something like: "Getting up the next morning, rested and sated,..." Sated meaning that they had sex. The reason for this is twofold: one is that I find it very difficult to write a really original sex scene, so I do it as rarely as I can get away with. It has to be at least somewhat original or I won't do it: what would be the point? Also, one thing I don't like in a story when I'm reading is lots of graphic sex scenes. So, I don';t put them in mine unless I have a major plot need to do so. In FTL, we had Chris and Steve's first time together, the "fire and Ice" scene where they got surrepititiously videotaped (and the details were clues later on) , and then one time in the back of Steve's car. Other than that, I handled it with allusion, back-references, etc.

Dex was over 18, so he's responsible for the tower, but so are Chris and Steve; They all participated, and civil suits tend to go after the "Deep Pockets": whoever has the most $$$, not whoever is most at fault. They still had enough for college, though, just barely.

As for the settlement from Thadious, That was looking good at the end of FTL, by the nature of such lawsuits, it would take time,

Peidmont can't just settle; it would be too big a hit, and there are also legal consequences if they admit fault. The common practice for a defendant in such a case; drag it out as long as possible. What's their hurry to settle?

BTW, I'm being vauge on the finances here; I have to; the events occur after the end of FTL, so they are in the sequel (still in its early stages, not yet posted) As for who is running what, and what shakes out financially, that's in the sequel. :)

Eric was going to empty the accounts again, but didn't get a chance. :)

Thanks CJ

That helped alot.

I think do see that when Eric was going in the direction of killing Steve and Chris that he was way in over his head and was probably strung out. I do realized drugs make people radically different. When reading Eric for the Ending. I see he's not totally evil nor even a saint. I guess the Williams gene make Eric a bit more human than an 100% evil radical.

I getting the impression that Chris is major hero and Steve is more like the sexual Tonto.

btw, a year later, did chris stay a blonde? and What are ht and wt and bld of the characters?

My impression Chris is taller than Steve and Steve is like 4 in over Eric.

6ft , 5 11 and 5 7

Given what paster mike preached. If Chris and Steve were to be more loving brothers toward Eric despite how bad he is. Would Eric change much?

Eric, at the end, is still an enigma. It can be read either way; either he acts alturistically in some ways and saves the day, or, it was all self-serving. We'll find out for sure more in the sequel. :)

As for Chris and Steve... I think I have them listed as being about the same height, about 6'. Both were descrinbed as having swimmer's builds (both are swimmers, too). However, i did try and keep the descriptions a little vauge; I like to let the reader fill in the details in their own mind. Too many times, as a reader, I've encountered overly-detailed descriptions of a characther's appearance that incles some detail I find unattractive. So, I try, within limits, to be a little vauge in some respects.

I saw Eric as very scrawny, and both lighter and shorter than Steve or Chris.
