The last thing Hunter wanted was a new neighbor. He enjoyed his cabin and sitting on his deck. But, a large moving van and blinking sneakers changed all of that.

He discovered artifacts that no one can explain--twin stars and a solar system carved thousands upon thousands of years in the past--that are just now being photographed and sent back to Earth by a space probe that has gone farther than any other man-made object before. So how did those early people know? Professor Trestan has to go back, but is the grant offer too good to be true?

I am sure many of you, like me, learned this children's nursery rhyme about magpies. According to an old superstition, the number of magpies seen predicts whether you will have good or bad luck. Something I came across subsequently, was the existence of many variations on this rhyme, some more sinister than the children’s version.

One of those is incorporated into this short story about boyhood abuse.

This is a story based on Friday's prompts and Billy Joel's song 'Piano Man'. There will be no rummaging around in past prompt themes. Every time something triggers the plot bunnies to jump, I'll write a new chapter. Therefore, there might be weeks in between chapters, where I won’t add anything new. I plan to alternate between Martin’s and Roman’s POV. There is no real plan, or direction where this will go, I'm open to ideas and suggestions.
