Ravings of a Rabid Werewolf - Poetry by Wolf - 22. The Long Walk

I wrote this and two others last Christmas and never got around to posting them. I was about to meet my boyfriends parents for the first time.

Snowflakes fall like feathers;

Fluffy, white, and beautifully silent.

Landing on the trees with delicate grace;

Painting a picture of peace and happiness.

The house is covered in twinkling colored lights,

Giving a false sense of calm to the horror I imagine within.

The short walk to the door seems like miles,

As anxiety, panic, and terror consume me.

We approach the imposing castle doors, huge and strong;

Built to keep all out or prevent a means of escape.

The feelings that envelop me give me but one thought;

As I took the long walk to the gallows.

Thanks for the note about meeting the boyfriend's parents for the first time. It made the interesting transition from fluffy snow to a walk to the gallows more understandable. You have captured the nervousness of the situation with some interesting word choices and descriptions. Nicely done! Thank you.

Thanks Jeff :)  Watching the snow fall on the drive distracted me from the horror I expected once I saw the house. lol

what a picture you paint with the juxtaposition of the fluffy soft snow and the gallows!

i well remember meeting Phil's family the first time, all 100+ of them! and they'd stop speaking English when i came near

anxiety, panic and terror indeed!

thank you WolfM for sharing this part of your journey with us

can't wait to see the next one...

Thank you, Molly. The snow falling as we arrived was beautiful. It kept my mind off when the car would eventually stop moving. The not knowing what would happen at the door... I was ready to get in the car and head home. :)
