Ravings of a Rabid Werewolf - Poetry by Wolf - 5. Surviving

Thank you to AC Benus for helping me polish this up.

This day I am five years strong

After the gift of a stranger’s breath

Returned life to my stilled body.

Having fought my way back

From the darkest recess of my mind;

To relearn how to live

And once again embrace life.

Each day I live is a reminder

Of that which I tried to end;

That through the darkness

And the demons that haunt,

Light can still find its way back in.

On August 8th, 2012, I attempted suicide and nearly succeeded if it wasn’t for someone’s knowledge of CPR. This wasn’t my first attempt, but was thankfully my last. If you Ever have feelings of suicide, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

Oh Wolf, you keep getting better. This was beautifully written and very powerful! Thanks to the CPR guy we get to enjoy your writing, both stories and poetry. I don't know you, but I am familiar with your writing, and I'm glad you are still around. Thank you. Jeff

Thanks Mogwhy.  I still have to fight against the darkness at times, but at least it doesn't consume like it has in the past.  Hugz

Thanks tim.  I'm glad we're both still here!  It felt good to write this knowing it's been 5 years since I wrote the poem I left as my final note that day.  Hugz

Hugs. I am glad you survive to inspire and enrich us all, to breathe life into those who need you. This poem is a moving expression of your resolve, and reminds all of us that every connection, all hands and lives are precious.
