Ravings of a Rabid Werewolf - Poetry by Wolf - 36. What is home?
It looks just as it did,
With my old bike by the front door.
I had brief second thoughts,
But with your love I have the strength;
Still, uncertainty reigns.
A knock on the door commits me.
The face is familiar,
I know the woman who greets me.
Recognition sets in,
And her eyes harden to a glare.
Not a hint of remorse,
Only venom and bile are shown.
Gracefully bowing out,
I bid the old woman farewell.
Returning to your side,
My home is with the one I love.
For the first time in twelve years, I visited my grandparent’s home. From a Facebook post years ago I knew I didn’t exist in their eyes. My expectations low and I was not disappointed. I did have a slight hope of reconciliation. My boyfriend felt bad for encouraging the visit. He couldn’t grasp a family treating their grandchild like that until he heard her words, “You’re dead to us. You have stayed that way.” I’ll never know what my parents told them about me, but the look in her eyes at seeing me said enough. I tried and this gave me a final farewell to my original family. They have no power to hurt me anymore.

We share the same surname;
Yet our blood that flows is distant.
A chance meeting online,
Guided me towards your quaint inn.
Open arms greeted us;
As new ties to old blood forged.
We come from one large tree,
And I see it can still flower.
I've pruned what was poisoned,
So I can embrace what remains
I had met someone in an online game with the same surname. We talked and identified common family backgrounds. He became the first family member I’d had contact with in years. That led me staying at his aunt and uncle’s inn on the Isle of Skye. Acceptance of their nephew carried over to my boyfriend and me. We were welcomed as if they’d known me my entire life. Again, my boyfriend’s love and encouragement has brought additional joy to my life.
