Weekly Wrap Up (Nov. 17 - Nov. 23)

    By wildone

Steve has climbed into his cave and don't wake him up until the end of April.  I think it it is @Slytherin's turn to stay awake this winter   That bear just happens to be the colour of outdoors.  We got dumped on the past week. No road lanes, no sidewalks, no nothing. All buried in snow. It is beautiful if you don't need to go out into it  Also, the temperature dropped into the minus celsius without windchill  Winter is here, I hereby declare. May you all share the wonder of it

Sneak Peek - The Pack

The Pack - multi-chapter, wolf-shifters I have been working on this for so long, it is my baby, my one true love. It won't be posted until I have the plot flushed out a bit more. But I have lots of teasers for it.   The myth behind the wolves   The Morrígan worked very closely with groups of men called männerbund, these groups were made up of young warrior hunters who lived on the borders of society and indulged in lawless acts. Often, she enlisted these groups to assist her in her plots

A Fresh Start?

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo.   That may seem like a strange opening sentence, considering my five-and-a-half year absence from GA, but I guess it'll do. I can always go back and edit it later.   Anyway, back to the tattoo. I've been tossing around the idea of getting a tattoo down my right forearm (my writing hand), with the first line of the very first story that I ever attempted to write on GA. I won't bore you with the details, as I doubt any of you will remember it, but I d

Roller Coaster Ride

Life is like a roller coaster It has its ups and downs But sometimes you seem so low You think you'll hit the ground But pay close attention Don’t close your eyes Watch as the track goes up Soon you shall rise.

Fujshoi Girls

*Note: for the purpose of this entry i will be using the term amateur writer inr regards to someone who is self-published or self posting. Not in reference to experience or skill level*   My interest in gay romance started in a way, I think, is similar to most straight women's: fanfiction. It all started with the Percy Jackson series. For those of you who are not familiar I'll give you a little background. This series has a totally bad ass character named Nico. He is sort of a minor character

Is It Over?

Let’s get this straight right from the beginning. I am suffering from a writer’s block. I’ve had these before and they’ve passed in time, but somehow I feel that this time it’s terminal. In fact, I don’t know the process of moving from Signature Author to Classic Author, but this very well maybe the time for such a transition.   I’ve tried to work on 319 and The GMOs, but there just doesn’t seem to be anything there.   So, I’ve done the only thing that a failed writer can do. I’ve turned to

Sneak Peek - The Good Doctor

The Good Doctor - Multi-Chapter, Romance, no supernatural elements, Maddox had a bad habit of looking for trouble, but one night in the ER and he finds something even more exciting then that. Can Maddox put his self destructive behavior aside to show the Good Dr. he's more than just a broken doll.   “What happened to him?” The doctor’s voice came out soft and breathless, and he wasn’t surprised. “Who did this?” The young boy lying in the hospital bed in front of him was unconscious; thick, d

Maxwell's Equations, Midterms And Spring Break: The Relationship Is Obvious

Holy crap.   I survived the most brutal midterms I've ever seen. I've seen a few that were only for the true masochist.   I was there for Doctor Gaddis's Great Calculus Massacre of 1983. Oh the humanity!   Sadly essay questions have not gone out of style- as much as they should. Those of us with the gift of blarney have an unfair advantage that lets us leverage a little knowledge and make ourselves sound like we know what we're talking about.     Describe the equations Maxwell's Equat

Politics And British Columbia, And Where I Fit In

In two months, my home province of British Columbia will be heading to the polls. I'm looking forward to the campaign, and hopefully in displacing the long-ruling BC Liberal government, which has had a continuous legislative majority since the 2001 elections that obliterated the BC New Democratic Party. Now, politics in British Columbia are different from the rest of Canada, so here are the important players.   BC Liberal Party - Their leader and the current Premier is Christy Clark, who becam

Mathematical Proof To....something

Weird blog entry, I was just trying to figure something in my head and a sequence of equations came to my mind.   1 x 2 +3 3 x 2 - 1   Both would equal 5 right.   So I thought, pretty cool coincidence, why not test it out on other sequential numbers:   2 x 3 +4 4 x 3 -2   Equal 10   3 x 4 + 5 5 x 4 - 3   Equals 17   4 x 5 +6 6 x 5 - 4   Equals 26   5 x 6 + 7 7 x 6 -5   Equals 37   6 x 7 + 8 8 x 7 -6   Equals 50   ....   It keeps working out   I know this is a math

Parenting And Gender

As a parent who struggles with gender identity (Neutral? Fluid? A-gender? Something else?) the hardest thing I have faced is figuring out how to raise my kid. He is a mini me, personality and attitude. In many ways he is what would be considered a 'regular little boy' but in a lot of ways he displays 'overly feminine' behaviors. I do my best to keep a neutral environment, but find have started over thinking things that is making my life, perhaps, more complicated then they need to be. (FYI he'

When I Get Bad News

I got some bad news today. It wasn’t anything terribly tragic, and I was kind of expecting it, anyway, so I shouldn’t have been surprised. But it was disappointing all the same.   Anytime I get bad news, I immediately go into self-doubt mode and systematically convince myself that I’m not worth my salt, I’m not good at anything, and who am I to think I deserve to have what I want. It’s always the same voice in my head, and it always says the same things. The voice has become so familiar over t

American Steel

American Steel began with a double purpose: replying to selected GA prompts and sharing some of my motorcycling experiences. The collection of loosely-connected vignettes allowed for each chapter to stand on its own while still telling a wider ranging story.   The first six chapters were easy to write. I have the next six outlined and number seven partially written. However, I’m uncertain as to when those will be posted. I’ve tried juggling several stories at the same time before and I wasn’t

Sneak Peak - Satan's Little Buddy

So (about) once a week I'm going to be posting sneak peaks to some of my upcoming projects. If something catches your eye let me know and maybe it will get published sooner   So this story is based on a prompt from Pinterest about a little boy making a deal with the devil, forcing the demon to be his friend. And Satan just rolls with it until he realizes at the time of their death he genuinely likes him. Since he can’t renege on the contract he takes them to hell and puts them in a high posit

Jon Stewart, Trump, And The Media

Tonight, I watched Trump’s address to Congress. Yes, you heard right: I sat my little, lithe young ass in a seat a watched the most powerful man in the world address the whole of his government. Amazing, an engaged teenager? What’s the world coming to?   Well, hopefully it is coming to a more informed populous. But that is beyond the point; it is what came after his address that I really want to...well, address.   There was an interesting article from the Atlantic that I had found when I wa

Attention To Detail, Or Loosing The Human Touch

Somewhat ironic that this may contain errors caused by only having my left hand to type...   my dad dad had died 3 years before I got engaged, so I wanted to keep my name. I also have some now obsolete software manuals authored in my maiden name. Our compromise was to combine, ex Williams-Smith. First issue is that my driver's liscense couldn't have 14 characters. The hyphen was deleted, and using the example, WilliamsSmith.   I have to bring photo I'd to all doctors appointments. So the off

Sorry To Hurt You

I'm not one to talk about myself. I'm a listener, not a talker. But here it is.   This weekend I was talking with my mom (well she was talking and I was listening) and she said that during the week she had an "argument" with my dad translate by she asked something, he answered, she didn't like the answer. So she asked my opinion. I knew my answer would hurt her, that she wouldn't like it but she insisted and I didn't feel like "stabling" my dad in the back (this sound dramatic but I don't know

Phased Array Technology

It sounds really scary but it really isn't. Actually- it is a natural evolution in the technology.   Once upon a time there was RADAR and it was good. It was very, very good and gave the ALlies a major advantage in the second world war. The technology was proven and all the world powers wanted to use it for civilian and military purposes.   It works like this:     Every RADAR dish is a dual mode device: it sends out a signal and it listens for its return. Ignore the math- it's really t
