What elements make for a believable character? What can writers add that aids in the complete and utter suspension of disbelief? Lots of thing come to mind like quirks, back stories, associations, inner thoughts, tribulations - and the list goes on and on. However, something many authors have done with beloved recurring characters is to give them hobbies. Certainly Sherlock Holmes had several and varied 'pursuits'. Agatha Christie had Miss Marple constantly knitting. Let's try rounding out
Have you taken a second look at @MericCotton's completed story if you read Second Chances once before? Or was this your first time reading it? Either way, this month's CSR selection was something a little different than the usual teen or twenties or even thirties fair. Sometimes life passes before we know it (How is it almost April already?) and things happen.... Make sure you share your thoughts about the story in the comments, but first, as always, my interview with the author first!
Well now that it is officially the end of winter on the Northern Hemisphere, let's not wish that winter on anyone in the Southern I think it was rough on our European, Asian and North American friends.
Just a reminder, I am still looking for completed stories or series for the weekly blog. If you have a favourite, or two, or more, make sure you send me a PM @wildone I have one left, so send me some...please

Spring is here! Or it is supposed to be in the Northern Hemisphere. So is it inspiring you or do you need a little help? If you need help, might I suggest some new prompts?

How's your schedule? Spring break looming for you? Or are you just looking to crash from all the harsh winter or summer weather and need a good reason to take a break? Well, once again we have another Classic Author feature to tickle your interest and catch your eye in case you missed this early author from GA's beginning days!
Kombat Kids is set in a place very familiar to me... the Pacific Northwest. Not far from the Columbia River, this is a region with a lot of rich plant-life,
This time of year, I'm always hoping for some spring to warm things here in the north, and I'm sure the south is getting ready for some relief from their heat. Either way, the extreme swings and highs and lows are starting to level out... usually. Washington is a great place to enjoy this time of year, and if you read GhostRyder's Kombat Kids, you'll get a great glimpse at the wonderful settings his story has to share as he takes readers on a journey along with his characters as they learn to ov
So, don't tell anyone but I think Renee missed her hour of sleep this week . This makes less work for me, and gives me something to tease her about . I do have to admit that I don't have a lil' one under that age of 1 that I'm tending to day in and day out, so I guess I shall forgive her Why don't we all share our love .
On a more sad note, we have members in New Zealand that we should share our love with too .
Monday, Renee introduced us to another featured story
Well, I've kind of slacked this week (read as completely forgot), and there was no Wednesday post. I had a plan, but the good news is that the current Q & A has been extended, so you have until the end of this month to get your answers to me! Also, there were no prompts last week since we had a promotion announcement, so this week I'm making up for it with 4 new prompts for you to contemplate and perhaps use to pen your next story! Happy Writing!
Prompt 740
Welcome to another Monday! Did you remember to set your clocks forward an hour? It's time for a new story review, and this one is brought to you by Cole Matthews! Enjoy!

Lucky I'm doing this tonight before I go to bed, as tomorrow, don't come looking to borrow a cup of sugar (do people actually do that?) as I might bite your head off . Yes, last night was this biannual silly thing called Daylight Savings Time. If you don't have this annoying time shift in your neck of the woods, it resets our clocks an hour ahead or behind to accommodate for longer days for the summer and shorter days for the winter and energy consumption. Unfortunately Saturday night was the ki
Please join us in congratulating Mike Arram on becoming GA's newest Classic Author! @Mike Arram has been writing and posting stories on the Internet for many years, and we're pleased to announce that he's now started to also post them here at Gay Authors. Mike Arram is the author of The Peacher stories, The Crown of Tassilo, as well as the first story he's posting here, Terre Nouvelle.
Checking out Mike's bio, we learn that even as a child and then into adulthood, he has an amazing i
We have something a little different this month. A reader sent in a question for Mann Ramblings that we’ll start the feature with.

If you could tell your younger writing-self anything, what would it be?

Ok. Here's my answer:
You're not an erotic author. You're an author.
Write what you want. Let the boys get raunchy, and sometimes beat the hell out of each other. Feel free to kill off the character if it's right for the tale. But te
Holy moly, it's already March! How's the weather where you are? We all know we'd rather be reading, no matter if it's warm or hot or cool or cold, so how about we enjoy this month's CSR featured story instead of worrying about all that outdoor junk. LOL This month there's something about the sadder side of love that called to me, and I couldn't help but think of @MericCotton's story, Second Chances. Give it a read!

You knew you should have read all the contracts before you signed, but who expected to be hired to walk a hell hound? Never mind one of the most famous in all of history. When the dark, sexy, brooding man told you he needed his dog, “Spot” walked and exercised, you figured it was easy cash. Now that you know “Spot” is better known as C
Hope everyone has had a good month so far. We're getting closer to wrapping up the Improve & Encourage feature. This month we have a critique on Carlos Hazday's story Solcar. Let's take a look at Parker Owen's critique!

This month's story announcement for the CSR Book Club was Down a Darkened path by Ronyx. An experienced hand at writing, this GA Classic Author knows how to write a story that sucks in readers and keeps them reading as you can tell through many of Ronyx's works. This story was no different, based on the thoughts a lot of readers' thoughts. I know I enjoyed this story despite the sometimes troubling events and sad scenes, the redemptions and ending held true to my hopes for the characters. But w
I guess there is no completed stories or poems on the site that are worth making a shout out to Well, there is one so thanks to that person for giving us a great recommendation to put at the end of this week's Wrap Up! In case you missed it in my ramblings last week, we were hoping to have you the readers (if you read on site, you are a reader ) to recommend a completed poem, story or series to have featured at the end of the Wrap Up. This week's feature is a much older story but one I hope more interest in will prompt Myr into writing more. Who wants to join me in getting some more psi-corps? The banner feature was on Monday if you want to download and put the banner in your signature to share the story as one of your favorites!
Myr's story is a short one, but I still chose a longer excerpt. There's a good glimpse into Jerry's character here, but it doesn't really give anything away about the story's events to
February is a short month, and I've picked a short story to go along with it. This is actually one of my favorites of Myr's stories, so I hope getting a bunch of new eyes on it will help get him to write more. Jerry is an interesting character, and there's a lot more to be told of his story!

What's up, buttercup?
So did you get to use that expression on Valentines Day? I know I'm late and maybe should have presented this last week, but oh well . So I remember when I was in elementary school, getting a box of Valentines Cards and filling out for everyone in my class, boys and girls. I was thinking to doing that this year at work but when I mentioned it to someone, they thought I might be setting myself up for a visit with H.R. So, did you do anything to spread your love
Yay! For once I managed to get the prompts up on time! Go me! As you can see, here's this weeks dose of the writing prompts, provided to us by @comicfan! Hopefully the two prompts below will prompt a new idea. Just remember, prompt responses under 1,000 words must be posted as part of a collection. Happy Writing!

With only about three months until the next anthology is due, I thought I'd take a moment to see how everyone is doing with their anthology entries!

Thanks @sandrewn for making one of my favourite words even more interesting. I have used it in relation to people and their behaviour and some people have used it in relation to mine.

Never used some form of incorrigible? I find this hard to believe. But I suppose I have an unfair advantage. I've been called incorrigible more than a few times.
Most of the words of late offered here, I have never used and at my age, with the time I have left, probably never will. Life goes on.
I came across this, found it to be interesting and offer it for your thoughts.
