A double cinquain ...

Dawn comes

with softening

light and the night’s cool breeze

that washes over heated skin

at peace.

A wren

thrills merrily

in the arbor, his song

greeting to both his mate and the

new day.

I heard that wren this morning; the peace was in the dawn and in the song. You describe it perfectly here. Bravo, Dugh!

For weeks now I have been wanting to put thoughts to word and yet they would not come, despondent I put aside that desire and now ... this actually began as two spent lovers lying in the grass but the words moved and changed of their own accord to draw forth long forgotten memories ... Can you see them, these two boys, tired from a long summer's day at play now ...

Entwined

two lie sleeping

in the sun dappled grass

with hearts beating in measured time

sprawled arms legs akimbo

innocently

at rest.

Since first learning of the cinquain the form has held a strong appeal. It's short measured flow seemed right for how I shaped thought to word. Now it has become like a favored toy. Something to be played with and twisted about to suit current need. Thank you for your kindnesses and forebearance as I play. I feel myself of little talent, like on to the sorcerer's apprentice, knowing just enough to be dangerous but lacking any true skill. Here I know you will not laugh or mock these small bits of myself I bring, to show and share. For this I thank you. Namaste.

No, this is a safe place, dugh, but you sell yourself short. To me, my poems are me, they are my thoughts and feelings, my way of looking at the world and sorting it out. Your poems are beautiful and they tell me about you, and who you are, how you feel. So I hope you keep writing and sharing them.

I agree entirely with Tim. You have a marvelous gift for description. This is real skill. Besides, your poetry appeals to me. If you can feel that, too, please, please continue to share your thoughts and ideas in verse.

I definitely agree with Tim. Poetry resembles you and the nature of how you think. I too play with forms sometime, but I won't name them with form and enjoy the poem as it is. So don't worry, and trust me on this they won't mind...

And this poem of your's is very natural in a way to say. Why don't you write Haiku or Tanka, as they shows exact picture in words. Just a suggestion!

Emi, dugh's written lots of haiku, it's buried in pages here and on COTT. That's why he (you dugh!) should become an author, so he can post all his lovely poems in one place.

I'm thinkin' about it. But for now the words are running at break-neck pace ... one bit ends and the next starts, sometimes two at once, it seems the damn dam has burst. I can't write fast enough and I'm losing some ...

As you wish ... now to decide what to post first ... you do know that I'm frightened by this whole thing. It used to be I'd share something with you my friends from time to time, now everyone and anyone can see ...

I'm so glad to see you join the red, dughlas. :)  You have a real knack for poetry and it will be nice to see them all in one place.  Your poem reminds me of a photo that my mom took when I was a kid.  It's of me and my best friend at time.  She had slept over and we both slept on sleeping bags on the floor.  Somehow we ended up with our legs all entangled, out to the world.  Thanks for the memory. :)

I understand the fear, but it will be overcome by the welcome you will feel... a little trepidation at every posting is to be expected because you are sharing a little piece of yourself, and that's a good thing... thank you for coming out into the light, my friend... Gary...

I'm glad you're going to share what you write Dugh. I've always found your passages, be they short or long, to be wise, thoughtful, full of warmth and caring. :)

Dugh, I too took a very long time to join as an author. Some of the many people posting here today encouraged me to change that. How wonderful that you have become an Author, too. What you have written is so very wonderful.

So this morning as the pup and I were walking we encountered three young men preparing for their morning run. It was early, just past dawn and dressed in nothing but running shorts and shoes they were stretching to loosen lean muscles and then ...

They ran

As young hounds might

When coursing, sun dappled

lissome forms move with an easy grace

they ran.

It's been a while since I posted hope this is deemed worthy.

I'm really glad you started posting your poems, Dugh. They've very evocative and good

I really like the second one - the emotional tie-in of singing to please the beloved moves my heart amidst the strong images. Beautiful.

I also admire that your poetry avoids that 'lost in translation' aspect I think of as haiku-speak, but I've diatribed on that subject already in a previous posting ;)

Very good work, Dugh, and as I said, I'm pleased as punch you are posting them for a wider audience as well.
