I also wanted to say I like Finn and Christian being on the same page as far as the state/pace of their relationship. While the child issue caused a moment of angst for Christian - he wants time alone with Finn to enjoy being a married couple - it was fleeting, because again, they are on the same page. It’s kismet, I tell you!

i wanted time too before we got Peter ...lol  didn't happen.

And ... Chapter 6 is posted... enjoy.

Read it, Loved it, wrote about it, and Liked and Loved where possible.

Short and sweet is what it was, and the nice thing about that is it's great for a binge read, because I definitely see myself reading and enjoying this again.

And, I don't mean to make you blush - well, maybe just a little bit - but like everything I've read by you, this was, and is, a great and wonderful story.

Kudos to you tim for hitting another one out of the park!

You should know by now not to listen to the critic in your head, because he's gotten it wrong. Every. Single. Time.

I've known you long enough that i think it's safe to say that you won't change. You will remain humble and appreciative of any and all praise that is heaped upon you.

@MichaelS36

Unfortunately even most authors don't know where it comes from.  I am no author, but I certainly don't know where the prompt responses I post come from.  If I did maybe I could write more than one chapter on an idea!

You are so right. And it would definitely be interesting to know where creative ideas come from... on the other hand, maybe not... 🙂

Like everybode else here I loved the story   :2thumbs:

It was just after reading the final chapter that I realized that perhaps we all long for a sanctuary from time to time and would like to talk to someone like Sam. He embodies what we know (or should know) from within, what is morally right but what we often see done wrong, what we often forget - one more than the other and it seems that forgetting about what is right has taken the upper hand these days, at least on people who are in positions to actually make decisions. So within this story I feel encouraged because Finn gets to decide what to do - and he's a positive character from the beginning because even if he thinks about giving Sanctuary up at first, it's because he doesn't know the story behind it. No, rather he has forgotten about it, at least about the part he knows, and his intuition once told him that there is more - perhaps therein lies the crucial message?

I loved it as a short story but I could also imagine it even more fleshed out as a novel.

Well done and above all: Thank you for sharing your stories :)

Thank you ... this is wonderful. i didn't set out to write the message ... but i guess in a way Sam represents Nature and the world that sustains us.  i do not understand why we want to kill the only thing that keeps us alive.

i'm not sure i have a novel in me ... but i will keep writing whatever wants to flow out.  Thank you for coming here to share your thoughts. i'm grateful.

Thank you as well. I guess the answer is empathy: it's so easy to forget about it leading our lives the way we do (and "we" can mean a lot of things here but humanity for the most part seems to have become estranged from nature; on the other hand, so many people feel a strong urge to reconnect or they feel that something is missing). If you had set out to write the message, it might perhaps not have worked as well as it did, in my opinion, because then a didactic or pedagogic purpose would have been the main reason to write it and not the characters to which the readers feel connected. It just feels natural the way you narrate it.

I hope I wasn't too impolite mentioning a novel. I only thought of "Brokeback Mountain", which I watched as a movie and after that I wanted to read the story. When I realized it is a short story, I was really surprised because I had assumed it would be a novel. So I learned from that experience that it can work both ways.

"Changes" still seems to be a novel - I mean, it's too long for a short story :) Not that it's important that there must be a novel, I totally didn't mean it that way.

Whatever flows out of you, it seems to flow naturally  xo

Thanks - it's just you can never be sure how exactly what you write is read, so I'm glad it coudn't be considered in a negative way.

How interesting - you're the first person I know that has read the story and not seen the movie; and I didn't know the author was unhappy about it. I liked both and I think I read another story of the collection in which it was published but that was some years ago, her style is really special. I also remember finding it quite hard to read (hopefully that would be much better now).

She was unhappy that people wanted to rewrite it

You can read  Brokeback Mountain here: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1997/10/13/brokeback-mountain

The author is Annie Proulx, she writes about the west...

Why she is unhappy after the film was made is here: http://time.com/3648650/brokeback-mountain-annie-proulx/

i've read many things that have been made into movies

most of them are horrible as movies

i believe that it's mostly due to our imaginations being so much MORE than any screenwriter, casting director or cinematographer can put on film

the rest is, i feel, the inability to cram everything in a written piece into 90 minutes (more or less) of on screen time

yes i get you.  have you read Jurassic Park .. had they made that film, it would have to be rated 18+ .. it was scary that book but no.. they sold out for the family rating.  I'd rather read.. though i love films.

I've found seeing the movie first then going back to read the book works better than the other way around.  They tried so hard with LOTR but I kept pointing out where they didn't follow the book, where they embellished, where they just plain missed something important. :P Got me in deep water with the hubby!

So, did you like the book? I saw the original movie, but not the sequel (s?).
