Well, there are comments that feel close-ended and sometimes I wonder if I should reply with thank you's or a ❤️ or if that would be overkill? I get this gooey feeling when I see a comment, it's amazing. Like "oh they read it and liked it now I want to write more!"

I think it's always nice to thank someone for commenting, even if it's a comment that doesn't need discussion.  I usually write "Thanks for the comment" or "thank you for reading" or something along those lines.

Yeah I agree! Still, I'm a bit scared of coming across as super needy.

I don't think it's overkill, but rather being polite.  A reaction to the post would probably accomplish the same thing... it's acknowledging the comment.. but I think it shows the reader more appreciation to actually reply.

LOL  It would never even occur to me to think of someone as needy for thanking a reader for a comment.  I hope that doesn't mean I'm needy...

Hey, AusG... Hell, I'm super needy.   I love getting comments... even an emoji. And I would never think of not answering one in some fashion. Interaction with readers is the best!!!

Yes, I love the gooey feeling too, but I kinda feel like I'm cheating and racking up my reviews if i comment over and over, thank you thank you! So I try to keep it to one or two comments, and reactions to the more close ended ones... 

 

What's different about this site for me, is that my readers have so many ideas about what should happen next in my story, I start feeling a bit overwhelmed....

If you worry about that, just do what @Cia and others do: Use the + button to quote a bunch of comments and add your replies below each quoted comment or one general comment at the bottom of the post.

For me personally, I get a rush when I get a notification that I got a comment on one of my chapters.  I'm happy when a comment says "Thank you" or "I really like your story."  However, I freak out when I get an in-depth analysis of the chapter.  It can literally make my day.  As for responding, I always quote the commenter individually and react to their comment since I always want to show my appreciate for that person who went out their way to leave a comment.  I also think it mostly guarantees that the person will comment on future chapters as well, but that's just me.

You're not the only one who gets that rush!!! Sometimes, like today, I had this site open in the background and kept hearing these loud "Ba-ding!" sounds.... I love that sound  Comments or replies or reactions galore!!!! Ok, I guess I'm not one of the people who doesn't interact. I took this topic way too seriously. 

 

Its other sites, such as Youtube and FB (God NOOOOO!!!!) that I don't interact on. This place is tightknit and special... and for the most part very welcoming. I usually fear what's gonna come up when I get a notification someone quoted me, but I haven't dissolved into a puddle of humiliation yet. I should really get over it and come out of my shell!

It's just a preference, but I like to answer each comment individually too. I try to address anything and everything that arises in a reader comment... maybe I go overboard sometimes, and write a book in reply,  but it's because I love and appreciate that interaction.

I love the interaction as well.  Also, when a commenter is making a guess on what's going to happen in the next chapter, I usually just play along, or give them some food for thought on the topic.  I don't know if that's cruel or just plain mean, but I do it anyways LOL.

I love it!!! Brainstorming with the readers ❤️ it's my favorite thing.
