Found this vintage recipe on Buzzfeed. There were over twenty horrendous fixings in one article, and I'm afraid it doesn't get any better from here.  @Valkyrie Look away, Val!

I thought frost improved the flavor of kale. I know it does collards and Brussel sprouts.

Okay, so you're talking hard freeze rather than just frost. I've grown collards back in PA that I harvested in very late December, a couple days before New Year's. I cooked them up as part of a traditional Low Country New Year's Day meal. They survived frost and some light snow before that last harvest. I've also over wintered spinach that I planted as a fall crop. Mulched the garden bed with chopped straw and leaves in December when the plants went dormant. Once the bed thawed in early March the plants sprouted new leaves and I could begin light harvesting earlier than if I had grown from seed. That was five years ago before I started spending winters in SC with mum. I might see if I can find some spinach seed here to plant as a winter crop. It doesn't get cold enough for the ground to freeze so I think it should work. If I can keep the deer from eating my crop.

We're at 14 feet.

Happy Thursday, all.  Nice, dull day here. Feels like more rain to come.

It's official, almost half the country is under a 9pm-6am curfew starting this saturday for 6 weeks, not just the bigger metropolitan cities. Strangely, Somme - where my apartment is - isn't but all the other departments around are. Good thing I went out with my bff last Saturday!

Also Strasburg has canceled its Christmas market. It had only ever happened during WW2...

Exactly. That's what the prime minister said in his speech. Of course it's not easy, it'll take efforts but they're not that bad but it's necessary. The bait (? I thing that the word)  on the short terms is to save Christmas, to not reach the point where a lockdown will be necessary by Christmas time for the mental health but also for the economy.

Christmas is going to be really difficult for me, but the main thing is to stay safe, and know my kids and their families are having good Christmases in their homes.

It's been rainy and dreary here all week, and today is no exception.  At least it's fairly warm out.  We may even set a record tomorrow!  I had my annual physical today.  Everything was good for the most part.  My doctor is sending me for a sleep study.  They also cleaned my ears, since they were pretty occluded with wax.  They feel so much better now!  And now I won't have to deal with them getting plugged so often.
