Jamie’s dad died unexpectedly and he never got to say goodbye. This bothered him because the last time he’d been with his dad they had a disagreement that never got resolved. Jamie learns that there’s a place in New Orleans where he might be able to rectify the situation and make contact with his dad’s spirit, but he doesn’t want to go alone. He asks his friend Drew to join him, and Drew agrees, and together they embark on an adventure that doesn’t go exactly as planned.

In 1720, Jack Rackham, also known as Calico Jack, was hanged for piracy. He left behind a son in Cuba, and a pregnant wife, Anne Bonny. The exact fate of Jack's son and wife remains unknown. The 1700's was a chaotic time for the Caribbean, but sometime in the middle of the century the Legend of Calico Jack resurfaced again.

Set in the Sanitaria Springs universe and featuring the perspective of Marshall as he comes to term with nearly a full year of dating his surprise boyfriend, the quirky Isaac. Knowing how his boyfriend's mind works - kind of - Marshall sets out to learn from the lessons of their Valentine's Day now that Halloween has rolled around. One thing has become clear to Marshall over the last year - this thing with Zac is real - but is it scary?

This story was written as an addition to the Sanitaria Springs series of stories. Those are stories written by Dabeagle and other authors who he invited to contribute. They are about events in the lives of several teen boys who live in the fictional town of Sanitaria Springs in New York State. The stories are interwoven and this particular story picks up on a character first met in a story titled 'Without A Trace.'

I do not think it is essential to read that story before reading this tale as I believe there is sufficient 'back story' here to enable this one to stand alone, but feel free to do so.
