Thorny Poetry - 43. Online

you cannot see my face

and i cannot see yours

you can’t hear my inflection

and i cannot hear yours

you can only read my words

as i can read yours

and words

are hard

they lie

words alone do not tell all

they are letters on a page

and it’s too easy to

misunderstand

but promise to read

my words

in the kindest way you can

and i will do the same for you

then maybe words will

tell the truth

Your poem pleads for understanding and asks the reader to read as one would wish to be understood. This is indeed an excellent formulation of an online golden Rule. Thank you.

I have found lately that my attempts at communication have been met with a lot of misunderstanding... I have tried to alter my words accordingly, but it isn't always enough. And I know that I myself am guilty of attempting to see beyond the words and seeing the wrong thing. Assuming sarcasm where there is none. Expecting hostility when people try to be kind. It's a vicious circle.

Thanks for your comments, Parker. ❤️
