Thorny Poetry - 33. Belonging

I feel this way a lot, in many different situations. Not so much right at this moment, though.

why do i persist

when i know i don’t belong

and i know it’s not my place

why do i stand here

at the window

it’s open

i can see and hear you

and i speak to you

try to join the conversation

insert myself where i’m not wanted

this room is not for me

i’m that guy

the one at the party

who no one really knows but who insists

on being part of things

i know that i offend

by being here, by taking space

so i should just go away but i wanted

so badly

to belong

I think we all feel this at some point or another.  I know, I do.

Nicely done.  You've captured it well, I think.  ❤️

You touch a place in my memory and heart with this. You capture my frequent sense of understanding the world.

Thanks, Wayne. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way sometimes... though it's good to have it confirmed.

Thank you, tim. Social interaction can be difficult and confusing... But yeah, there are some people that just make you feel valid.

This is a human need: to be included. Your poem is sad, and too often life can be like that. Thanks.
