Thorny Poetry - 4. Truth

Written in response to someone who wrote me poetry.

It’s not about

me

what I am

not really

It’s about

how you see me

what you need me to be

what I am to you

And it’s still true

Because

isn’t that what all relationships are?

Are we not all

each other’s blank canvases

onto which we project each other?

Are we not all

each other’s mirrors

showing us what we can be?

Are we not all

each other’s truths?

Let me be your canvas

and your mirror

so you can project the world onto me

and I can reflect your light

the beauty of your words

back onto you

So I can be

what you need me to be

and show you how wonderful you are.

I'm not a poetry expert, but this was beautiful and honest, and all the more poignant when we know the story behind it.  Thank you so much for sharing this!

The simplest words carry the most weight, and being acknowledged for your values is always rewarding when someone else lets you know you have been doing a somehow decent job in life. Thanks for the honest words :)
