Thorny Poetry - 6. Right Here

i said

i could write poetry about your back

the lines and the curves of it

men have written epics about less

and you said

that in this world there is a single truth

and nobody knows of it

and then you got out of bed to dress

and i was left here staring at the beauty that is you

the beauty that is true

knowing there is nothing i can do

every scar tells a story

and i can read them on your wrists

every word is a poem

of all my want and pain and love and you

and i know it’s not forever

and i know it isn’t fair

but it’s what we’ve got right now

right here

I wrote this about my ex-girlfriend. It was gonna be a song, but I never quite managed to make it work as one.

It would still make a great song. The tune will come one day. Very lovely.

Thank you! ❤️

Very touching, and the stanzas are lyrical; I heard your song forming in my head as I read through.

I can hear the whisper of a song in the flow of words.

There's something there, I think. Just hard to find the right flow, since the metre is so choppy, for lack of a better word.

I don’t know about you, but I got a sense of time slipping away. Perhaps it’s the love you felt, having to get dressed and be apart from a loved one from the day that’s the emphasis of this lyrical piece. Thanks for the words :)
