Thorny Poetry - 25. The Second Guess
i write the word and
scratch it out
hit backspace
start again
three times, four times
begin the message anew and then
scrap it
not worth it
go back and edit
doesn’t read right
that wasn’t what i meant
but it’s there, in black and white and
cannot truly be unsaid
did they read it yet?
so many words unspoken
so many messages unsent
worried i’ll say the wrong thing
be misunderstood
offend
i write the words
hit backspace again
what happens
if i press send?
