Thorny Poetry - 21. Friend

it’s strange

the kind of world we are in

with eyes blind and faces hidden

how am i to know

are you my friend?

you keep me in suspense

make me wonder where i am

when there is no reply

are you my friend?

it isn’t worth the anxiety but

i am starved

needy

afraid

seeking you in the dark

when i cannot see you

hear your voice

or read between the lines

how am i to know

are you my friend?

Maybe you're not asking the person you need to ask.

Maybe not. Having lived on the Internet for the past sixteen years or so, though, I somehow never quite got good at interpreting online communication, lol!

Yeah, i get you. And people can easily lie.  i try to take them as they are, until they do something that tells me different.  And there have been some really bad ones...however.. i cannot blame the new person for the sins of others, if you know what i mean.

Yeah, I know. And in the end, my experiences have been largely positive. It's mostly the ones that just disappear (and I'm guilty of this one myself), or who are still there but just stop talking to you...

This poem is one for our own times. You bring out a question everyone must have asked at least once.

I’d imagine so. Funny old world we live it.

Which can sometimes be a mirror of offline communication? Begs the question as to whether either one is more real than the other...
