A prompt a week - 41. The Proposal - Prompt

Based off the prompt.

“Do you really think he did it?” Robbie stared at his mother, his spoon halfway to his mouth.

“First, don’t talk with your mouth full,” Margie sighed as she put the milk into the fridge. “Secondly, did who do what?”

Robbie swallowed his cereal before he spoke again. “Do you think Anthony proposed last night? “

Margie turned to look at her youngest son. “How do you know he was planning to propose?”

“Moooom!” Robbie squealed. “I was with him when he got the ring.”

Margie shook her head and finished cleaning up the kitchen. “I know as much as you do. When he proposes I guess we will find out.”

Robbie padded across the kitchen and put his bowl and spoon in the sink. “I'm gonna go get dressed. Wanna be ready for Anthony when he gets home.”

“Don’t forget to wash your face and hands. Oh, and pick up that towel from your bath! I’m your mother not your maid!”

Once Robbie was safely busy at the other end of the house, Margie slipped her cell phone out. There still was no message. She bit her bottom lip and was just starting to scroll for her son’s cell phone number when she heard his car pulling into the driveway. She sat, trying to be patient, and waited for him to come in.

“Hi Mom,” Tony said as he set down his bag and looked around the kitchen. “Where is Robbie?”

Margie rolled her eyes and gripped the edge of the table. “Your brother is getting ready to spend the day with you.” She took a deep breath. “Well?”

“Well, what?”

“Anthony Christopher Williams did you finally propose last night or not?”

Tony laughed. “Wow! All three names.” He stopped laughing when he spotted the look his mother was giving him.

“Tony … I mean Anthony, you’re home!” Robbie came running into the kitchen and launched himself at his older brother.

“Hey kiddo. Aren’t you getting a bit big for this?” asked Tony as he caught his brother midair and brought him in for a hug.

Margie watched her sons with a mixture of pride and anxiety. However, before she could say anything her youngest beat her to the punch.

“So are you getting married?”

Tony smiled and looked at his brother. “Yup. Rahiem said yes.”

“Finally,” screamed Robbie. Margie and Tony looked at him and laughed.

“You know I wanted this to be special. He is my Boo.” Tony smiled and held out his hand. “I wasn’t the only one with that idea.”

Margie looked at her son’s ring and the deep blush on his face. Her eyes got wide and then she began to giggle, then full on lsugh.

“Mom, this is so not funny,” gasped Tony as he got redder and looked from his mother to his brother. Robbie crossed his arms and looked at his older brother.

“Well, duh! You’ve loved each other for years! At least you both finally did something about it.” Robbie paused and looked at his mother and the his brother, but he was biting his lower lip and cocked his head to the side. “Um, does this make Ray-Ray my brother, or my uncle, or what?”

“Oh, lord. Don’t let Rahiem hear you call him Ray-Ray! And, um..” Tony sputtered.

Margie rested her hand on Tony shoulder. “He’ll be your brother in law, Robbie. Now go get your sneakers on so you can go to the parade.”

“Yes, Mom.” Robbie raced down the hallway and into his room.

“And I expect to hear all the details when you get back later.” Margie engulfed her son in a tight hug. “You better grab your warmer jacket. Here is thirty bucks toward lunch. I’ll see you both after work.”

“Yes, Mom.”

Robbie raced out of his room. “Come on, Tony, we are gonna be late. Bye, Mom. I got my jacket.” Robbie grabbed Tony hand and began to pull him towards the door.

“Have fun you two. Robbie, listen to your brother!” Margie watched her eldest buckle her youngest into his car and drive off. Life had a way of surprising her, but she knew her boys were growing up right. With a smile she pushed closed her back door and began making her lunch for work, trying to figure where Tony and Rahiem proposed to each other.

Well, I finally got something up again. Sorry, I will have to look for the prompt number. Seeing how this turns out on my phone. Comments are always welcome.
