November CSR Discussion Day: Hustle by Talo Segura

    By Cia

Wow, November already. With the year almost over, I wanted to keep featuring things that kept readers guessing and challenge the idea of the traditional reading genres and stories. What did you think of Hustle? Share your thoughts below, but first, the interview!! Chocolate or Vanilla? I have to cheat... both! What's your favorite room in your home? Do you plot or write there? I don't have a favourite room and I write where ever I find myself alone and not being disturbed, of

Ray Price dead at 87

Many of you youngsters have no idea who Ray Price is. I used to wake up to him singing on Saturday mornings at my home. My Dad loved him. If you want to hear some wonderful and heartfelt music, Google Ray Price Greatest Hits. 'For the Good Times is wonderful, but I love so much of his music. I know this shows my age, but music like this should be remembered, and revered. May this iconic Country singer be remembered with respect and love.

Creepy Science, strange but true

I think GA writers will get a good amount of inspiration from this factoid, it also shows one very interesting truth about human beings. We are in many ways conditioned and controlled despite our own beliefs in individuality:

Becoming A Bully

Just a little something I wrote for school, and thought I would share, oh and please disregard all the grammar errors, I wrote this for a presentation and figured since only i was reading it I didn't need to fix them, and now I'm just lazy.   I live, I lie, I make you cry, It makes me stronger when you no longer, Have any power, to fight back To attack, to react, To stand up through my attack, Cuz if you did then you would see, That what I do, is not because of me, it’s because of y

Damn TSA

So when I got to the airport today and was going though the TSA they were questioning my temporary Iowa Driver's license. It is equipped with a watermark and security features but the guy was asking for something else. He asked for my social security card, which I don't carry. I landed up showing an insurance card and credit card. I was surprised I didn't have to give a DNA sample. I was so happy when I got home and in my mailbox was my official Iowa Drivers License. Now when I am in DC next wee

Two Weeks Later and My Friend's Official Obituary

It's been two weeks since my friend Stephen died. I checked out his FB page, and found a link to his obituary.   It's so strange. I've actually had this habit since I was 11 or 12 years old of reading obituaries. This guy in high school said I was morbid for doing so, but I've always liked reading about the interesting and long lives of people who lived through things like World War II or the Great Depression. I also like to visit cemeteries, check out tombstones, read the dates, and imagine

A song that didn't make my list for stories but is still awesome

Blink 182- Won't Be Home for Christmas was one of my favorites for a long time; irreverent, edgy, and real     It's a good song for all the opposite reasons that Christmas Shoes is good song to me. I like Music that is deep and emotional or Irreverent and satirical. It complements my personality traits; I am very traditional conservative guy, but I also have extremely Socially Liberal views and aggressive opinions. I'm not Bipolar, just a quirky guy with a taste for opposition.   Here's

Bully and a Black Eye

This is absolutely crazy. My eight year old grandson is sporting a black eye. "real black eye" His eye is almost swollen shut, and black puffiness below. He was defending the same little boy from a few weeks ago. The teachers told my daughter that they were looking into it. The little guy Kyle defended is very young and naïve. What is going on here? Kyle's teacher told my daughter that the bully hit the younger child and Kyle jumped up and punched the other boy in the face, resulting Kyle

Two steps back for India

So with more and more countries making progressive steps to equalize rights between homosexual and heterosexual persons, I guess it is unfortunate that there are some countries that will try to reverse that direction.   First, Russia made international news making the promotion or homosexual lifestyle illegal.   Now we have India's Supreme Court overriding a lower court ruling in 2009 that ruled an 1860 law outlawing "carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or anim

The problem with "democracy"

asamvav111 posted this depressing news item today   http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-25329065   India's top court has upheld a law which criminalises gay sex, in a ruling seen as a major blow to gay rights. The Supreme Court ruling reverses a landmark 2009 Delhi High Court order which had decriminalised homosexual acts. The court said it was up to parliament to legislate on the issue. According to Section 377, a 153-year-old colonial-era law, a same-sex relationship is an "unnatur

Twas the Fight Before Christmas

It's no secret that I am a Christmas idiot. When Halloween ends, I'm all about Christmas. I start planning to put up my tree, start my shopping, and plan my Thanksgiving Dinner so I can get it out of the way and concentrate on Christmas. This year it has been a nightmare!   Thanksgiving was at my house, so I assembled my tree, left it in the porch house until the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I had about twenty folks for Thanksgiving Dinner, and out of the five women over twenty there, my t

Why do people hate Christmas Shoes so much?

Alright, after a few days of tear jerking, instead of my usual kind of jerking I started to research the history of the song that was recommended to me by my Youtube (I was browsing Christmas songs for new things, Clarkson's "Grown up Christmas List" is on my playlist as well). I found out it is ranked as the worst Christmas song ever by several people and Gawker.com     As a gay man, yes, overly Christian dogma is scary, but I really don't get that from this song even though the band th

Holiday Punch - POW!

I'll admit it. Punch seems forever relegated to our grandmothers' generation of teetotalers, but there is a reason why our great, great grandfathers called it Punch - the real stuff packs a wallop!   There are hundreds of recipes for both boozed-up varieties and virgin ones too. But, the thing that is true of every punch is its sweetness. In the 17th century, sugar was a luxury and saved for holidays like Christmas. One of the best versions, whose recipe dates back to the 1690's, is Fish Ho

Trials and Tribulations

I'll be wrapping up Trials and Tribulations with the next chapter.   Will there be more to come? In a word, yes. However, the time frame on that is up in the air. The big mistake I made with this story was not having it written before I started posting. I won't make that mistake again. Whatever I write to continue this story will be completely written, beta read, and edited before I start posting it.   I'll say more after the last chapter is written.   Thanks everyone!   Billy

The Kiss

You can move mountains, they say If only you ask with love I found it true when my Softest touch moved your reluctance away And I saw the sun rise Though before I was blind And its warmth pierced my heart In million rays, in million ways I felt it burn, I cried out “Gloria in excelsis Deo” Every kiss tells a story Ours was the beginning       ©asamvav111

eBook Review: No Flag by Liz Borino

No Flag by Liz Borino My rating: 4 of 5 stars   I tried to read this, stopped in a few pages, tried to read this, stopped in a few pages... The early hook with the dramatic scene into the past plot line drives me bonkers. It colored the story for me and let some of the initial romance down.   That being said, I'm so glad I read the story. Once I got to a certain point the character's bond and the pain/drama they went through reached me and kept me reading. I've had a bit of a thing for mili

Time - Where did it go?

Since Thanksgiving I have been on the run. I haven't been sleeping well or keeping up with much.   My father's surgery went well but he is still recovering and that goes slowly.   It seems the post office is playing hide the mail. One of my bills sent out over two weeks ago still hasn't arrived. I got a call today if the bill isn't paid by tomorrow I lose my insurance. Now I have to run there and pay it. Watch me pay it in the morning and check clear in the afternoon.   I finally got my ho

It has to start somewhere.

Once in a while I believe that I have something worthwhile to say that doesn't quite fit in my profile feed or the forums. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen. But as everything needs to have a beginning, I will start by offering the beginning to a story that I am working on. It has no title so far and I don't think that it deserves a sneak peek forum entry just yet either. As the story progresses I will have more of an idea of what genre it belongs in and what tags to attache to it.
