Gay Themed Movie Review "Yossi and Jagger"

I am bias about this movie, I really liked it as an 18 year old trying to figure himself out, and as a 27 year old, I still like it, because it is relevant to our times, which is quite sad and tragic.   I am going to leave my commentaries about Israel and its military towards the end of this review:   Plot:   Yossi is an Israeli military commander and Lior,, his subordinate and a team leader nicknamed Jagger due to his handsome looks, are in a budding gay closeted relationship on a Lebanon

Thanks for the EXTREME pateince!

I just want to start by saying THANK YOU FOR PATIENCE!   It means so much that all of you have been so kind about my long absence. I have been astoundingly busy with getting ready for college and being a senior in school, it's been wearing on me.   There is good news however in that brand new stories are coming SOON.   There is bad news as well and that involves Trigger. I've been able to complete over half the story now, but complications have led to the halt of future writing for this s

Nostalgic TV Shows: Happy Days

Well, I was channell surfing last night and just got a nostalgic itch for watching something older than me   Behold, the king of Nostalgic comedy: Happy Days.   Ron Howard and Henry Winkler had a good comedic duet, Ron's conventional Ritchie Cunnningham and Henry's immortal womanizing rebel, Arthur Fonzerelli, played to each others' characters perfectly. The supporting casts of stereotypical 1950's family and friends were equally comedic in their own ways from slapstick to understatement.

Endings

In a purely technical sense, as of now, I am unemployed. I left my employer this morning having handed in my ID card, blackberry, laptop etc and very much feeling the effects of my leaving party last night.   Obviously this is good news, not least because i will now have time to actually fulfil my obligations as a beta reader.   I now have a week of unemployment before starting my new role - I'm very excited

Lava Beds National Monument

In Northern California, Lava Beds is a rugged beauty created by the Medicine Lake Shield volcano.     The landscape is covered in basalt- a thick, dark lava and many features like hundreds of lava tubes and vents.           If you ever get a chance, it is well worth a look.

What should I watch next?

Suvitar suggestions: I am adding some notes in Blue   Sommersturm (summer storm Germany 2004)- This was actually my first gay non-pornographic movie (I had used Bearshare to download it, because I didn't have a credit card and I didn't know where else I could find gay movies, I wish I could pay the producers for giving me a great introduction into coming out. I saw this movie in 2005, when I was 18 and had left my home for college, 2 week early move in and right before they put the P2P blocks

Redwood Highway

One of the places you must see before you die is a highway in Oregon and Northern California called the Redwood Highway.   US 199 runs from Grant's Pass Oregon to Crescent City, CA and points south. It's a frikkin magic ride that takes you past crystal clear rivers running to the sea through canyons that they have cut over the eons. Those valleys are filled with redwoods and sequoias.   That's just for starters. Those woods are full of wildlife. I pulled off the road to an Elk Viewing Area.

Trials and Tribulations

I have decided to end Trials and Tribulations Book 1 The Beginning with chapter 26, Family. I will be taking some time off and then begin the second book, yet to be named.   Thank you everyone that ever wrote me, commented on a chapter, and/or left a review. I never expected to have a story of mine to be so well received by so many of you. I truly look forward to writing again on this and other stories.   It will take some time to gather together a team to edit and beta for me, but most impo

Short Story Anthology Release

Evening y'all, I am delighted to announce that I have/about to have, a second short story published exclusively by House of Erotica. The story is Limelight and Gin: Ruby Rose is the hottest jazz singer in town, and Eugene loves working for her as a backing dancer. He likes the limelight, the bootleg gin, and he's slightly jealous that it's only the girls who get to wear sparkly outfits on stage. The thing Eugene likes most about Ruby, is that she will keep his secret, and doesn't gossip. Unle

Gay Themed Movie "Juste Une Question d'amour" Review

I love french films; their movies provide great characters and intricate plots.   Here is the simple plot:   Laurent is a closeted gay boy attending college and studying agricultural engineering. His family is deeply homophobic and have inclinations toward exiling gay family members, like Laurent's dead cousin Marc, who died of Hepatitis (probably not from sexual activity based on the film's scenes, maybe drug use though). Laurent was close with his cousin and his cousin's boyfriend Alain. L

Some Apologies

I have to apologize to a few people. I am sorry this week has been a total disaster and I haven't been able to keep up as I should.   Monday - I really wasn't out to let people know, but my father was in the hospital for tests. There was a concern about some growths found which biopsies had to be done. Good news is that it wasn't cancer, but it was a nerve wracking few days.   Tuesday - I came home from work to find a letter from the insurance agency saying that my back should have been cov

the forest primeval

This tree could be upwards of 2500 years old.   When it was a seedling, the Spartans and the Persians met at Marathon.   When Christ walked the earth, it was alive.   When it was an adult swaying in the cool winds of the Pacific Northwest, Europe was dying of the Black Death.   It was already a giant when Columbus blundered into Sab Salvador.   The two hundred-forty something years of the existence of the United States are as nothing to the giant.   It is timeless and a world apart;

Just Life

You know? I guess I should feel fortunate to have an interesting and progressive life. We had a disgruntled employee threaten to burn the plant down this week. We went on lock down. The local law enforcement visited us many times, and I actually had a pistol in my cradenza. So yeah, life goes on. Ok, so far.   My funny this week was my homophobic supervisor that shares my office space. We have a door between us, but normally, it remains open. He hates gays although, I think I've said it

Malaysian Flight 17 has gone from human tragedy to something I can't put into words with this revelation.   http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/18/aids-conference-says-100-researchers-may-have-been-on-board-crashed-plane   Yesterday, I thought this was a human tragedy.   Today, I imagine not only those who have died on that plane, but the millions of people around the world, who may die, because such great minds were lost. There are many in the gay community, who are positive, so it

Human Tragedy and the inevitability of human conflict

US Intelligence believes that Malaysian flight 17 was shot down by a SAM (Surface to Air Missile):   Confirmation of Missile strike on Malaysian Flight   This is a horrendous act that has not been seen in European air space for a decade, according to the Gaurdian the last flight to be brought down was also near Ukrainian air space.   http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/17/history-of-airlines-shot-down-malaysia-airlines-mh17   I am not blaming either side for this senseless use of m

Love vs Hate

Hi everyone! I hope you all are well and having an awesome day.   Those of you that know me will attest that I am a man of many opinions and not shy about sharing them. However, the recent past finds me trying to be more selective in my trips to the soap box to render a diatribe. I believe I have been somewhat successful in this endeavor, at least until now.   I have never been accused of being a gay activist and I don't think of myself as one now, either. What has happened now to change my

Update on my reviews and some Food Porn

First about my movie reviews, I have decided to review the gay themed movie Juste une question d'amour, Expect to see that this sunday (I have decided to do my reviews on Sunday, so I don't over do it).   As some of you remember, who know me over the years at GA, I can speak and write in french, so it's not a huge issue for me to review and watch French films Personally, I prefer them and German films to a lot of American gay themed movies. I also watch a bit of Chinese gay themed movies as a

Cleaning up

I am a hoarder. There, I said it. I hoard memories. I keep things long after I should. Today, I started cleaning out.   I was on my hotmail account and there I still had emails from exs, including one who decided to break up after two years via email rather than face to face or even on the phone. I kept his final message and all the rest. I am past the point of caring about it. I opened it and laughed that I still had it. Amazing what nearly twelve years will do to your point of view. LGBT themed movie review "Velvet Goldmine"

Hmmm...for once the synopsis does not show the movies complete plot Velvet Goldmine was a critical flop in 1998, when it first came out, but I never heard of it until now. I now understand why reviewers were so harsh on this movie, but I am going to look at it from modern viewpoint and an eye as a film critic.   I use LGBT in this description, because it is not just about two gay guys, a lesbian couple, or something that is sexually monotoned. It has a lot of meaning for the entire sexual sp

An Unfortunate Update

Dear friends,   I'm sad to report that, with a mere 3 weeks of training remaining, I was dropped from the Marine Corps Officer Candidates School. While, at the end, I was training at a level even with, or above, most other candidates, my performances in the beginning suffered greatly from an overall lack of military knowledge and familiarity, and my overall progress, therefore, was unsatisfactory. While this occurrence has been incredibly disappointing, I thank those special few for their unwa

Reviewing World War I

My next movie will be "Velvet Goldmine" after I finish this experimental review of something bigger than any movie.   With so much hype over World War I's anniversary (1914-1918), I thought, why not review World War? It's not a gay film, nor is it practical to talk about entire conflicts with many plots and diverse characters unless you are an academic or are trying to say something big. However, as a war that reshaped Europe, changed the course of history through its subsequent and concurring

Gay Themed Movie review "Maurice"

Ah Fuck!   I forgot how I felt about this kind of movie; Victorian and Edwardian era movies are my most detested historical and geographical framework. Some people like the idea of servants and masters (No not BDSM kind alas ), a rigid class based society (Movies like this make me want to drink to my grandfather and his strident Marxist-Socialist ideology), and a society so effete that it ignores its own hypocrisy (This is the British stereotype that has existed for nearly a century).   I l

The Unsolvable Riddle

The Unsolvable Riddle   Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, a reporter and lawyer, began writing a series of tracts which when finished in 1879 was called “The Riddle of Man-Manly Love.” In these booklets, he discusses the nature of sexuality including the innate quality of some men to love other men exclusively. As with Karl Kertbeny, Ulrichs wasn’t happy with the common references to gay men such as pederast or sodomite. He created some Greek referenced terms for sexual identity, Dioning for straight men
