Weekly Wrap Up (Nov. 17 - Nov. 23)

    By wildone

Steve has climbed into his cave and don't wake him up until the end of April.  I think it it is @Slytherin's turn to stay awake this winter   That bear just happens to be the colour of outdoors.  We got dumped on the past week. No road lanes, no sidewalks, no nothing. All buried in snow. It is beautiful if you don't need to go out into it  Also, the temperature dropped into the minus celsius without windchill  Winter is here, I hereby declare. May you all share the wonder of it

College Week 4

Howdy y'all! Time for another College Week!   PHYS 2425: This week, my teacher taught us about forces, specifically friction. However, this was also the week that my class had our first exam. And well... I got a C.  To be honest, I'm one of the lucky ones, half my class actually failed it. MATH 2414: But not everything is doom and gloom. Where last week we learned how to differentiate inverse trigonometric functions, this week, we learned how to integrate them. Again... super fun!

It Was Almost Bye Bye Birdie Time

Needless to say, my life is one big fuck up right now. Everything seems to be going to the shits. Well, not everything. Two significant parts of my life remain on track. My reading is prodigious right now. I am actively reading: Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman, Lords and Ladies by Terry Pratchett, The Seventh Cross by Anna Seghers, Hiroshima by John Hersey, Blood’s a Rover by Harlan Ellison, and most of The New Yorker when it comes to the house most weeks. Yeah, you’re asking how do I keep

An Open Letter to Alzheimer's

Dear Alzheimer’s,    You’re just a dirty sneak thief.  You sneak in and steal from people. You don’t even have the courage to announce yourself.  Your nasty cousin, cancer, at least starts with a cough or a pain. But not you, oh no.     You waltzed in, and started taking things. Little things. Things you didn’t think would be noticed; like where the car keys had gone, or the reading glasses. “Everybody remember

Life on The Very Very Small Holding

This morning I woke up, pretended to eat the imaginary ice cream (green flavour!) that Goblinboy pretended to feed me, got up and fetched Baby Wolfeater from his cot, gave them milk, and went back to bed to snuggle my husband. Dashi joined us, because the best place for a lurcher to be is cuddled on our duvet, and after a little while we were invaded by our small and not so small sons. Then I got up.   It's Sunday, so I abandoned my husband with the small boys, and Dashi and I went to

College Week 3

Howdy y'all!   Today, I'll be going over my third week at college, so let's begin!   PHYS 2425: This week, my teacher introduced us to forces and Newton's Laws of Motion. I thought I knew them well enough, but boy, I was wrong, really wrong, lol. For our lab, we conducted an experiment to test balancing vectors in two dimensions. Basically, we attached weights to three strings and placed them each on their own pulley that were attached to a force table, then tied the strings

Baby the Rain Must Fall

I received an interesting comment (not a review, which I would’ve preferred, since it seemed to cover the whole story) on my recently completed five chapter story The Angel of Retribution. Since the comment was not totally flattering, I will refrain from revealing the user name associated with it.   I’ll save you the trouble of having to go look up the comment by quoting it: “Hmm (a half-smiling emoji added here) really bad writing great story though but I don’t really think u (yes, ju

When it's not just about you

A few years ago I was fat and out of shape. I got tired of it and decided to do something about it.    Over several years I went to the gym 3 or 4 times a week. I didn't do anybody's insanity workout. I studied and talked to some people and came up with plans that would work for me.    Sometimes I missed. Sometimes things came up and just didn't have time. I was sick on occasion but, more often than not, I went.    I went down from 300 to 240- over time. I haven't l

College Weeks 1 & 2

Howdy y'all!   Today, I'll be giving y'all a brief summary of my first two weeks at college. But, before we begin, I'll give a quick introduction and explain a few things.   First, the actual titles of my courses are long, so instead, I'll be referring to them by their Subject and Course Number. So, with that in mind: Principles of Physics I is PHYS 2425 Calculus II is MATH 2414 Business and Professional Speaking is SPCH 1321 Introduction to Engin

Thursday 30/8

Dear GA It is late Thursday morning, I have no idea where the past few days have gone. My anxiety levels have been up and down a bit this week, having to deal with government red tape, grrr, they are impossible sometimes. I have just finished another one of my stories, and already had many requests for a book two, I'm not sure if I can or not, I will have to think about it some more. meanwhile, I have gone back to the one unfinished story, and I am hoping to find a suitable conclu

Donating Stem Cells

Stem cells are a critical part of the human immune system. The sit beneath white cells and T-cells and usually reside in the bone marrow.   In certain types of cancers like leukemia and bone marrow cancer, the damaged stem cells must be cleaned out by chemotherapy and radiation and re[laced by healthy stem cells. Those stem cells establish themselves and go to work.   This is very tricky as small genetic variations can cause disaster. An identical twin would be the best match

What's the (point) .5 of it all?

Greetings acolytes!   Sorry, sorry. I was rereading a Mercedes Lackey book and saw the add for her fan club. And yeah, excuse the brief moment of imagining I have one of those and needed something to call my fans. I blanked on how to start this post after I wrote the title. Mid-afternoon caffeine on an empty stomach.    Ahem.   Since March, I've been striving to post chapters monthly for my story Predators: 2-14-9X   March saw chapter 1 (Imagine Magazine

Monday 27/8

Dear GA I have fallen into that bad patten again, of staying up to the very early hours of the morning, and going to bed around 9am, and sleeping most of the day. Yes, I hear you, I know it is bad for me, but I just can't help it. The medications that I am on really screw me up sometimes, and although I am no longer gaining weight, I am still over weight and I can't seem to loose it. I guess the addiction to Coca Cola doesn't help either, but I do try to eat healthy, with ple

Back to Seattle

Tomorrow I fly back to Seattle.   Jeez that town needs a Cajun Restaurant.    I wonder how I would do there selling Po-boys and gumbo. The seafood there is great but needs a touch of BAM.   Damn. Now I'm hungry and think about jambalaya with chicken, sausage and shrimp.   But I digress. I'll be there to donate stem cells for my brother.    This procedure will cure or kill him. As we're so genetically compatible, it's his best shot. Only an identi

Update

I have had an extensive physical at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and am in great shape.   I have been tested for all sorts of viruses and conditions and have none of  them.   I am in great shape and will be an excellent stem cell donor for my brother- who has bone marrow cancer.   We expect to give him the transplant around the 1st week of September.   Since we are such a good match, that ups his chances for recovery considerably.   This is e

Real BF , Where Are You?

Me: Hey! Hi ! Hello ! How are you ? Can we be friends ?             I am so like that! it is so funny that I am so hopeful that I can find my true love. I have so many crushes and sadly none of them like me? Am I ugly? “ looking at the mirror” Me: No , my friends and other says I’m cute .  Am I super girly?  Me: No Am I sw

Hammerhead 19

I had to publish 19 before it was really ready.    I'm flying out to Seattle in the morning to be with my brother for a few days as he's undergoing chemo at the Seattle Cancer Care Clinic.   If I'm healthy enough I will donate stem cells for him which will give him a shot at recovery or at least remission.    Real life is a pain sometimes.    It gets in the way of important stuffs like writing.    Next chapter will return to the Stonegarden syste

Life Happenings

On August 9, 2013 I decided to take the plunge and join GA as a member instead of reading stories as a lurker.  While I'd dabbled a bit with writing poetry and some creative fiction, I'd never actually finished anything I started writing.  The closest I came was a vampire novel I started writing in the early '90s (which I may yet finish )  The atmosphere on GA was so welcoming.  It felt like a place where I wanted to interact with others, and one of my favorite things was reading the weekly pro
