November CSR Discussion Day: Hustle by Talo Segura

    By Cia

Wow, November already. With the year almost over, I wanted to keep featuring things that kept readers guessing and challenge the idea of the traditional reading genres and stories. What did you think of Hustle? Share your thoughts below, but first, the interview!! Chocolate or Vanilla? I have to cheat... both! What's your favorite room in your home? Do you plot or write there? I don't have a favourite room and I write where ever I find myself alone and not being disturbed, of

For my Dad The Seasons of Life

I have tried to write all of my life, school, my own entertainment, helping young students with essays, and piles of notebooks of stories that my Dad read every one of, from back to front. ( takes deep breath ) Hopefully, I can post this all at once.   When my dad became ill for the last time right before Christmas in 1997, my family postponed the trip we normally made at Christmas to see my Dad through his surgery (amputation of a foot because of diabetes), and help my stepmom. I am not go

I got a job offer, yay! Feels like Charlie after Golden ticket

Seriously, I feel like I just got the golden ticket. It's not the best job in the world, but it is at least paying me a fair salary based on my ability, education, and licensing. I''ll get a signing bonus, a staff of three people, and an annual increase based on corporate operations. However, it's better than working for next to nothing, getting promoted and taking on responsibilities that belong to others, and never getting any respect.   My position will be just a senior level accountant, b

In Response To

This post is in response to Yettieone's beautiful blog 'Proudly Standing Strong'. So, if you have not read that yet you better come back later.   Yettie is a wonderful blogger; His words well-chosen and to the point, and his content heartwarming. It is not the first time I have been so moved by his words, and hopefully will not be the last either. His latest post is about people, who has touched his mind and rendered it gold. He is talking about people who are not related by blood, but has rem

Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead

So my manager returned to work early last week, and her welcome back was, shall we say, less than friendly.   She has received several size sevens up her backside (primarily from her manager and the manager who was covering for her), and the top information manager for the hospital (who I've only met once) apparently jumped on her with both feet.   We had our team meeting this morning, and we have been told that our manager has just tended her resignation - though we all think she was probab

Just a Halloween Ditty

I rang the bell of the house next door and heard someone bellow out loudly, " you little shits, I have no more.'   Trick or treat I said in my sweetest little tone, he bellowed once again," you little shits go home."   Glancing in his yard I saw a large pile of crap. I gathered it up gently in my little nurse's cap.   Reaching in my plastic pumpin for a little paper bag, I emptied out the sweet , filling it again, while trying not to gag.   Carefully winding the top of the brown bag gif

Proudly Standing Strong

So we got to sit and watch the Pride of Britain Awards yesterday. It is something that I have always admired in a way, but tend to wonder how it is that they could possibly make those choices. See I'd want to give that award to everyone that does something special, and heck there are many people that reach out and do remarkable and unusual things.   The judging panel is made up of pretty remarkable people in our society already, a panel chosen by the chief sponsor of the event, the Daily Mirro

Sandy: Don't Panic.

It was inevitable of course.   The winds and floodwaters of Sandy have barely abated and the usual suspects are out in force scare-mongering.   CNN: Is Sandy a taste of things to come? :>> http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/31/us/sandy-climate-change/index.html   NYT: Did Global Warming Contribute to Sandy's Devastation? :>> http://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/30/did-global-warming-contribute-to-hurricane-sandys-devastation/   Since there have never been hurricanes before and they

Puck's Story.... It was a Vacation Day

as many of you know Puck has been giving me a headache about writing his story, well I've got him pinned, skewered, and a roasting fire ready, but I really don't know what questions to ask him concerning his activities and whereabouts....   I know my readers do.   Please post your questions, or anything that has been niggling you about the entire series if you want so that I can get it cleared up in this installment.     Thank you for your assistance, it is much appreciated.

Unexpected Sadness

Even though I live in Mississippi, I came from an even smaller town in Louisiana.   From the time I was eight until the time I was 13 when we moved to Mississippi I lived next door to the baptist pastor, one house over from the church.   Across the road from us, down the hill, there were a couple of trailors that young couples rented..   Richard and Kay were one of the couples. Richard was a native of our small town that fought in Vietnam. He brought a new bride home with him that left h

First anniversary

So yesterday was my GA first anniversary.   When I first came to GA it was really just to read some brilliant stories, and hopefully find a few authors I'd never read before.   I really didn't plan or even expect to be where I am now - having posted 15 stories (and 30 some prompt stories) and 127k+ words, and recently having joined the blog team. I certainly didn't expect to get to know so many great people - I'm not gonna start naming names because there's just too many of you great people

to grow old, to go gray and later white

Getting old, feeling his strength diminishing, thinking more in the past than the future, seeing my friends disappear one by one ... Seeing the youth stand up to leave their seats when I boards a bus ... Seeing my hair in the mirror becoming more and more white, No longer be able to run as long and as fast as before and quickly losing my breath after few hundred meters, No longer feeling anything but tenderness at the sight of the beloved, Thinking with nostalgia of the happy times when I l

To Shave or Not To Shave

Ok so a bit of a break form the norm for me today, I am going to write something that is probably a little bit of a rant, a little bit controversial, and you will probably all be telling me that it is down to personal taste, but still, I'm going to vent about it anyway.   Late last night, a little bored, perhaps a little frisky, and being a full blooded male, i sort out some interesting porn and chose to be entertained by some on screen antics for a while!!!!   Shock, horror, the Yettie Watc

Life's ups and downs

Hi All,   I know it has been a while but I figured I would update things a bit. I am really having some ups and downs but trying to keep it going.   I prefer to focus on the good.   I am up to five Halloween cards this year. One of them was a postcard for the Day of the Dead. That was a first for me so really made me smile. Plus one of the people who sent to me mentioned they didn't know Halloween cards existed. They should just wait. Any of my usual's know I send out cards for all occasio

Read Before Entering

Well, I know I always talk about suitcase company and it is not just talk. Guests seem to like to stay overnight, and most of the time two nights. But, some of my family called last night to let me know that they would be at my house next weekend, staying until Wednesday. That would be a total of four nights. I love them to death, but they are the most complaining guests that I have. After getting off the phone with them, I starting bitching about them coming to my husband and how they comp

The Cloud - coming soon

I have decided to suspend releasing the Cloud in my blog.   I will release the story in its entirety this Halloween!   ====================================================   The great observatories have detected an unknown object approaching earth from deep space. Governments prepare for the worst in secret as scientists look for answers.   The Cloud is released in its entirety at:   https://www.gayauthors.org/story/jamessavik/thecloud

A Kick Out Of Writing

It has been a while since I have done any writing, I have been working on a variety of other things for my job, my company, my responsibilities, and of course doing a lot of ground work on my brand new work, the story I hope one day blows people away.   Ah heck I can but dream. but to be honest I do like the idea, and the guy that is helping me with the research for the book is really amazing, and has some wild stories to tell. He's made a small fortune as an escort and is such a nice person

The Cloud (3)

World News Network Pacific Bureau Sydney, Australia     Kelly Simmons, the Pac Bureau’s science correspondent, had five minutes’ notice that there would be a full staff meeting in the Bureau Chief’s conference room. Everyone that wasn’t in the field or on the air was supposed to be there.   Something very odd was going on even in her little niche of the kingdom. Scientists loved to talk about their work. Many of them saw outreach and education as vital part of their job. They loved to t

A Thought For You.

For me personally, the last two weeks have been a quietly controlled spell of manic activity in the bigger scheme of things. For a while, I have been locked down in a world of woe, wondering what tomorrow will hold and when the inevitable is going to happen.   It is never a pleasant feeling, knowing that you are headed for a world of pain, and there is nothing that you can do to avoid it, side step it, or even really prepare yourself for it. These are facts of life, nature in all of its cruel

Give me the strength

I feel like strangling everyone at work! It's like why must you be so incompetent!?!??!!!!   Give me the strength to not want to scream at everyone!   Every email, every phone call, GAH! GAH GAH GAH GAH!!!!!!   One email writes:   "Ryan,   Need to reshoot for the spread for *censored* magazine. Can you be there by 6:30 am? Photographer is leaving by next week for Paris."   GAH! GAH GAH GAH GAH GAH GAH!   That's all I can rant about! GAH!

Leukemia - Light the Night Walk

It's a rare occasion that I'll blog about anything serious (or at all really), so I'll keep this short.   It's rare that you go through life and meet someone that doesn't have some sort of heartbreak in their past. I'm not talking about relationships either, but more of the kind that causes you to stop and wonder how life can be so cruel sometimes. From cancer, to domestic violence, to losing a loved one in an unfortunate accident, everyone has had something like this happen to them in their

Fatal Festivity

My last post here said how happy I am to go home. Ironically, last night I recieved a call from my mom telling me, my childhood best friends dad has died. He was suffering from Parkinsonism for a long time, had a mass compressing his spinal cord, which was found to be thankfully benign and he was bed-ridden since early last year. But, he was recovering well. The physiotherapy was paying and the last when I saw him about six months ago, he was able to walk on a surface but couldn't take stairs ye
