Weekly Wrap Up (Mar. 10 - Mar. 16)

3 days to spring 🌻 🐦I found out it is the 19th this year instead of the normal 20th due to being a leap year. Makes sense. So what are you planning for the Spring Solstice or if you want to be correct, the Spring Equinox? I was thinking of going outside striping down to some shorts, last year when I said naked, some of you didn't like the idea of that , and frolicking in the fields. Wait, although tomorrow will be a record breaking 18 C (64.4 F), by Monday we go back down to under -10

Story Intrigue

Story Intrigue I consider it one of the most difficult challenges that I have to face every time my fingers touch this keyboard. I definitely want people to remain invested and keep them riveted as much as I can from beginning to end, but I still want to give some hints, clues, and a touch of foreshadowing along the way. Going along with the principle of Chekhov’s Gun in crafting a story, “If a gun shows up in the first act, then it should come back for use in the third act.” I’m paraphrasin

Tired Prompts

Around here it looks a lot like spring which means I feel either super energized---or I’m tired. Luckily some GA members sent me prompt ideas so I can find a comfy spot to take a nap in the sun. Thank you @Thirdly and @Lee Wilson. PT #211 You’re a closeted gay man at a company gathering, for example, a conference of some kind. The company brought in a unique kind of entertainment and you’re attracted to one of the entertainers. With their costumes, you can’t tell if they’re male or fem

A thousand apologies for being a little late for this month's Author Guess Who! But don't worry, it's here.  Y'all know the drill, and if you're new, the game is simple. The Passive Character

The Passive Character Roller coasters can be a lot fun, can’t they? Hehehe! Unless you’re deathly afraid of them like I was when I was a little kid, and then had to try them out and find a love for them a bit later on. That was when I learned to appreciate the twists and turns, the highs and lows, and the overall speed involved with the joy of getting onto one of those massive monsters and being tossed around like a rag doll for a little while. And whenever I’m writing something that I want

Wisenheimer - How sarcasm can drive a character sketch

Comedy in a story can elevate an interesting tale into one you can't put down.  There are several types of humor, but perhaps one of my favorites is the sarcastic retort.  Nothing can fuel a character like some witty, and biting, humor.  Let's try some examples with a, well, not first line, but first exchange with two main characters.   Have fun with it.     #209 - "This is the last time I'm going to trust you with being the lookout."              "What's my next job? Calling All Poets!

There's still time to get some poems written for the 2024 Poetry Anthology - Seasons!  We're already seeing some submissions come in, so let's make this a great anthology!  We need participation for these anthologies to continue, so even if you're new to the art of poetry, give it a try and see where it takes you.  A great starting point is checking out @AC Benus's prompts in the Poetry Forum.   https://gayauthors.org/forums/forum/369-poetry/   Guidelines can be found here:

Ask An Author 3.0 #37

Do you know how tempting it was to copy and paste the intro to this article? The weather has been absolutely insane. California is buried in snow, and the high today here in Banjoland was 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This is wild! But you're not here to talk about the weather. What was that Oscar Wilde quote? "Conversation about the weather is the last refuge of the unimaginative."  I would also say you're not here to read quotes, but this is an Ask An Author interview, so I suppose you could quo
