HONESTLY..........well, to be honest actually

I don't really read the sex scenes. But I consider stories without sex scenes to be lacking.....

Got it? ^_^

So I'd want to see stories with sex scenes even though I'd ended up not reading it.

Do you realize the vulnerable position you have left yourself in??? :P

I have this picture of you in my head reading a story and some pages look like a window frame with with only clear glass.

Ok, I'll stop there with the abuse. 0:)

I must commend you, however, for the very liberal position you have adopted in your self-censorship. :P

Maybe Dom can do an extremely explicit short-story for those of you who want it :P

Okay SOSSers, so here's a hypothetical...

Say Dom writes a quick-fix, short story about a brooding Aiden who takes a weekend trip to the Arizona Desert. While taking pictures of the flat mesas from a local park, Aiden see's a gorgeous Luke sitting with his dog. The two hook up and have a raunchy, sex filled, carefree weekend.

You wouldn't read that?

I must say even I would read that. Luke and Aiden are my two favorite characters from Dom's story, anyway. We'll have to make the suggestion :P

With Aiden's luck, he'd run into his old boyfriend, Aaron (TLS).

Nah, Aaron(tls) isn't in Ari-frikin-zona anymore. He's at a hospital near his Aunt.

So Aaron(tls) is either in the same hospital that Oliver got tricked into staying at, or he's at the Nursing home where Sara is. :2thumbs:

I thought it was established that the two Aaron's are not the same person? It is the Aaron from DD that's not in Arizona anymore.

 Who said there were two Aarons???

MikeL!!!!! Help!

From TLW ch 13:

"Forget it." I insisted, "Now come on, you still have two more of these guys to tell me about."

"Okay." Aiden smiled, "The next one was Aaron. I met him at school too. But, he was so afraid of what his parents would think if he found out, that we were always sneaking around wherever we could. He ended up moving away a few months later and I never heard from him again. And then, there was Mike

From TLW ch 13:

There was a lot of discussion in this forum in the topic Aaron, An Appearance in TLW while DD was being released. I don't think anyone knows if they were talking about one person; probably not...just a name Dome likes.

That taxed my memory a little. :pickaxe:

Once again :worship::worship:

I think I :wub:you MikeL (and Menzo too).

If i had to read something solely for sex scenes...i'd rather read some raunchy sex story or watch porn....lol

I would have to disagree; it seems to me that a sex scene can be hotter in a certain context. For example Owen and Aiden's first time in the hotel is my favourite Dom sex scene, and I thought it was really hot. Had I read exactly the same thing but not known "who" Owen and Aiden were, I'd have probably found it considerably less enticing. True enough it was really well-written, hot, and sweet in general so I'm sure I'd have still enjoyed it, but having it be about Owen and Aiden and their first time made it SO much better.

Frankly, I'd just as soon not read about sex for 'manipulation' purposes. Rape scenes are horrific and cause me a great deal of distress. If I'm following a story, though, I still read them.
Vic, I agree with you that some of Dom's sex scenes are phenomenal (I'm think of Owen's first time topping for Aiden) but regardless, I still am not really interested in exactly who sticks what where. Undeniably, some of the scenes are integral to the story, but that's what skimming is for.

I'm wholeheartedly with Conner on this one; I can't imagine skimming over any story I was reading recreationally. When I read a story I read every single word - carefully usually, and I often stop to ponder. The whole concept of skimming is completely alien to me.

It's definitely because I like to savour what I'm reading, although true enough it may be a touch of OCD too. I can't really skim anything. When I was in school I seldom studied the textbooks because I felt weird if I skipped around instead of reading each chapter front to back, every word. Even now if I'm going to read anything, no matter how boring, I'll either ignore it completely or force myself to read the whole thing. (when I say the "whole thing" I actually don't necessarily mean that I'll finish everything I start reading - often I don't - but I'll read everything up to whatever point I stop at).

It would be hotter if it were Owen and Luke instead. Or perhaps Jude and Luke!

Anyway, I'm enjoying ITFB, but personally I'd love to see a few hot sex scenes.

Take care all and have a great day!

Hia all, do you not think that Dom has written it that way because it adds more to the story and its dynamics. The whole story has been about us guessing what is happening, and we have been thrown into the middle of a saga already ongoing and confusing. I have read all of Dom's stories except TLW because for some reason when I started it way ago I wasn't interested, don't ask me why I can't remember, but I love his work regardless. But it has meant that I am discovering everything from scratch, and I have to say its amazing viewing it that way. To me his story is perfect, and not knowing adds to the allure of the story. At the same time Dennis' reaction seemingly in the middle of the inimate scenes because of certain paragraphs I find amazing, and just add another dimension to the character that just because it doesn't conform to how we think it should work, makes it more fasinating and real to me because you can't predict people and their feelings. and this story to me is a journey into how we relate to other people, assumptions we make, and how we very ofetn get them wrong as we aren't mind readers. and wow I have rambled off topic there (or maybe I look at everything that way recently).

re the skipping, quality work I never skip, in others that I am thinking about reading seriously, or reading to fill time before other quality chapters appear, I skip were nessacary if they bore me as I want the story and often in those types of stories they aren't telling me anything new and just wasting my time.

I agree with you. Although pure sex stories can be fun, sometimes it is better when you 'know' the characters. I may skip a lot of the sex scenes, but some of them are just too good (that one, as well as Owen's first time topping)

I didn't mean to imply that I skimmed the whole story

Just the sex scenes, so that I don't miss any important plot points that may occr in between grunts and moans.

I would encourage you to read TLW while you are waiting for more of ITFB. I recently re-read it and I think it helps in understanding ITFB because many of the characters were developed in the earlier work. Owen and Aiden's separation means much more if you understand what their relationship was before. I know when you start a new story, it may seem slow because the main characters haven't clicked yet much less appeared in a sex scene. Dom's stories are never slow for long.

Travis is a complex character, but Dennis also is and perhaps more so than Travis. At least, we know more about Travis' eccentricities. As the story has unfolded, it seems Dennis is still a mystery. Dom has a cool hand with suspense.

Luke and the dog with someone watching? Not too much into voyeurs of males having sex with furry animals.

Hmm, lots of good comments here, would never expect so many people to skip over part of a story, even if it is a sex scene.

Mostly though I really do want to something between Dennis and Travis so I know what goes on in his head. I mean he's not exactly gung-ho about gay relationships is he? Dennis still seems really uncomfortable talking to Owen about Aiden, so I'd imagine he'd be a little awkward with Travis. Plus it would be cool to know if he bottoms (think there's a thread about that), cause it's hinted at but it would really seem out of place for his personality.

People are just different :)

My style of reading is that I tend to skim, anyway. I read sentences and paragraphs, rather than words. I'm probably about halfway between the standard "traditional" reader and the speed reader in that respect. What happens when I get to a sex scene that doesn't appear to "fit" the story, I'll just skim faster. Having said that, I've also been known to read them properly -- a lot depends on how they are introduced and how they develop. The sex scenes in DD, for example, I read properly, because I could sense how important they were to the story.

LOL, you mean something like:

"Uhhh, right there" "I have to tell you something"

"What?" Dirk asked and he readjusted Mike's leg

"I killed Prof. Plum in the library with the wrench" "Faster!!"

I was thinking more along the lines of Rory's sex scenes with Aaron.

I'm breaking my oh so long silence. I kept on reading the stories, but I haven't been posting for a while. I'm breaking it mostly because I think I'm the only one who's going to say that she wants sex scenes in ITFB and I feel like I have a damn good reason. Often times I'm an SOSSer...skimmer more tan skipper, really. Less so in Dom's stories though I'm sure I've done it in TOU. Surprisingly, I've been wanting sex in ITFB because I feel that the lack of it is hiding character informaton. To put it bluntly: I want to know who's on top! I know it sounds stupid. Shallow. Maybe something only a yaoi fangirl who thinks that gay sex needs definite roles would say. But that's not the reason. Dennis is a character that none of us know too well. He started out a mystery man that does not like expressing his feelings. He still is. Thanks to the fact that we're the readers we get more insight to his character than everyone else (other than Dom, of course). He has just come out of the closet (to us) as a person who is attracted to males but gay sex is new to him and goddamnit if I wouldn't like to know how he handles it. Does he feel like it is his "macho duty" to be on top? Does he not care at all? And how does he face this new experience? As far as I care, all of this could have been mentioned without a sex scene, but it hasn't been mentioned. I guess I just want the emotions behind the sex and I don't feel we've been getting enough of them, especially when it comes to Dennis. I feel that I could have figured at least some of it out if I knew who was on top (well, that first time...afterwards it doesn't matter as much). The way a person handles sex, especially when it's the first time with a certain gender, it is something important. I would have liked to see it. I would have liked to know more.

I've been thinking about this for a while now and I believe that sex scenes may reveal more about the characters than Dom wants revealed at this point in the story.

I say I agree completely! This would let us get a better picture of who Dennis is and what he's thinking about his relationship with Travis. It could also lead us to more information about what happened with him and Leo and maybe the Ben thing too.
