Something to think about

We live in a changing world, but we need to be reminded that the important things have not changed, and the important things will not change if we keep our priorities in proper order.

Hmm, interesting quote rick. I have to be honest, I've been struggling the past couple of weeks. I feel like I'm stuck on the hamsters wheel, spinning around and around, going nowhere. Everyday is more of the same, every weekend too.

It doesn't help that it seems like I'm in a cycle of not sleeping well and I'm exhausted every day. I'd certainly like for things to change but I have no clue how to do that. My pain level from my knees and thumb seem to have ramped up too. I'm in a catch 22. I know I have to move and exercise more, but when I do, it hurts more and makes me more tired, but I don't sleep any better. Ugh, I'm just a mess.

I should probably figure out what my priorities are first before I see if anything needs to change or not.

Good afternoon rick and everyone. I hope that everyone is having a good FriYay!. So along the lines of important things and priorities, my city has banned door to door trick or treating this year. Instead, they're going to do a drive through trunk or treat at the local park. I think that @Starrynight22's creativity must have rubbed off on my city's leaders. It's not often that they do the right thing, but this time they did. It does suck for the kiddies, but it's about keeping people as safe as possible and trying to minimize the spread. Priorities in proper order--check.

this sounds like a smart idea we have a few similar things going on here in town as well. they are using mall parking lot for a trunk or treat so lots of room.

i’m in the same boat with my version of the hamster wheel. waiting on things to get to a new normal so we all can get out. There is only so much you can do at home or in your backyard. for me this has brought up some past health issues that i thought were gone. dealing with new meds. also looking at things with new insights and a new way of handling everything. i’m a work in progress.
so take care of your self

i understand this ... it's like being captive.  I had to start drinking decafe coffee in the afternoon. I take melatonin to help me sleep when i'll be working and cant nap.

Wayne and i have been writing albeit slowly. We try to write about 100 words a day or so. Also i have taken up knitting and stuff. i needed something else to do. So far i'm enjoying it. it takes my mind off things ... i watch Arne and Carlos on YouTube.  Arne is Norwegian and Carlos he is too by way of Brazil and Sweden. They have been textile and fashion designers for 20+ years. They do tutorials and podcasts.. both had Covid. They are interesting and funny. I laugh often while i listen to them. And they are interesting and have travelled the world together.  They have helped keep me sane lately.  They knit, crochet, sew, cook, talk about history of Norwegian design and all sorts.  If you need a little brightness, tune in.  Sit and Knit for a Bit are their latest podcasts. You can simply sit in awe of Arne who has knitted etc. since he was a little boy. He is amazing to watch. I've never seen anyone knit or crochet that quickly.

I figure if Ronnie Wood of the rolling stones can knit ... so can i.

Maybe this isnt for you.. but consider doing something if you can. Origami, sewing, paint by number, try drawing, buy some ready made wooden ornaments and paint them. Make something.  i am thinking about dragging out the sewing machine. i'm not sure why Michael had one .. likely his mom gave it to him. LOL I've never asked Him, but i will.

Creating something, makes me feel like i am alive.

Wow, you brought back some memories for me tim. I took sewing lessons with my best friend when we were about 10 or 11. Our moms made us. She made shorts....I think they were red with white piping. I made a dress. Why?...I really don't know, I was such a tomboy growing up (5 older brothers will do that). We still laugh about the ugly shorts and the flowered dress.

I used to crochet too. Unfortunately, the tendonitis in my thumb has left me unable to grasp very well and repetitive motion aggravates it.

I'm sure I'll figure out something. I just need to give myself a swift kick in the ass to get motivated. Christmas is coming, maybe I'll hit the craft store and find something I can make without wanting to chop my thumb off!

I should probably get back to writing too. I'm starting to miss it. Just waiting for the voices in my head to speak up..lol.

Thanks for the pep talk, it's much appreciated. I'll check out Arne and Carlos, they sound fun.

I used to knit - not very well mind you - to relax. If only I could remember how to “load” the first row of stitches onto the needle... oh right, I’m sure YouTube has some helpful hints.

The other crafts I really liked doing were rug hooking and cross-stitch. Maybe I should look into doing that again as the leaves have decided not to fall now that I’ve got my leave mulcher ready to go...

Oh, and good morning everyone. I hope you all have a great day! :)

PS: Funny story. My aunt decided to teach me to knit when I was eight. You could have heard a pin drop when she referred to me as the happy hooker. :P

Those are so cute!

I love the suggestion of using scarves for material...only problem is that those are hard to find in Florida..lol.

I'll have to check out the Dollar Store and see what they have this year. Those little boots are adorable. Thanks tim!

Check Goodwill or flea markets (if they're open in your area). They're usually a great source for things like that.

Most craft stores sell what they call fat quarters, just over a quarter yard of material cut from the tail end of a bolt. Quilters love em since they can get lots of colors and patterns for piecework.
