When you get to the Percy Jackson series, I hope you enjoy the Trial of Apollo. I finished that last summer during the pandemic.

Hopefully Riordan will do a spin-off series with Nico and Will in the underworld. I'd be happy to settle for a novella even if it's not a full series

I would love a Solangelo story!

They're such a cute gay couple: The cheerful teen nurse and the emo teen necromancer, the stories write themselves with their back-and-forth.

Plus the funny thing about Will's other ability, I picture it like this

Spoiler

Nico feel the warmth of human body and brightness of light on his eye

Will: Sorry for glowing all over you, being next to you just makes me too happy.

Nico: I like it, you're like my night light

Will: But, you need your sleep babe

Nico snorts, thinking that he sleeps with the dead in the cold dark depths of the underworld surrounded by wails of agony, having a glow-in-the-dark boyfriend whispering concerns and snuggling up to him with warmth is like Elysium.

I don't write fan fiction stories or share the ones I write often with folks, but I wish someone would write a full Solangelo story on GA. They're already a Canon couple, it's just a matter of expanding their relationship and figuring out details.

I enjoyed the slog across Marduk and the machinations to get rid of the bad guy, but there was something a bit unsatisfying about how it all got tied up at the end.  Of course, they left enough loose ends to have quite a few more volumes, so perhaps that was on purpose?

I read that three more books are on contract and have been since 2007

Interesting, I did not know some of the gay fiction writers I read used different pen names for different genres of writing. It figures, I use different pen names on different websites, too.

Reading Nealy Wagner, aka the alternative pen name Sarina Bowen (Author of HIM Series) Goodbye Paradise, it's an interesting plot, heavy emotional baggage, and deep seeded hurt/comfort gay romance.

Do you guys ever wonder what other pen names your favorite authors go by?

Kate Griffin is the open pseudonym used by Catherine Webb for her urban magic novels.  She states that her publisher (or was it her agent?) advised using a pseudonym in order to spare her young adult readers the confusion of running across a novel written in a wildly different genre.

Amanda Cross was the pseudonym adopted by the late Professor Carolyn Heilbrun of Barnard College for her mystery novels.  Her detective was Kate Fanshaw, a professor at an unnamed women's college in New York City.  At the time I was introduced to the series, Heilbrun's true identity was as yet unknown, and many believed it was because she was not entirely kind to the colleagues she skewered.  It could also have been simply because academics who write popular works are shunned by their colleagues, especially if the books sell.  Eventually, the novels became popular enough for Heilbrun to drop the pseudonym, and the later books were billed as "by Carolyn Heilbrun, writing as Amanda Cross."

The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne, by Jonathan Stroud

Set in a fragmented future England, The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne introduces us to a world where gunfights and monsters collide, and where the formidable outlaw Scarlett McCain fights daily against the odds. When she discovers a wrecked coach on a lonely road, there is only one survivor – the seemingly hapless youth, Albert Browne.

Against her instincts, Scarlett agrees to escort him to safety. This is a mistake. Soon, new and implacable enemies are on her heels. As a relentless pursuit continues across the broken landscape of England, Scarlett must fight to uncover the secrets of Albert’s past – and come to terms with the implications of her own.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this book, but I'm currently into Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.   He also wrote The Martian, but Project Hail Mary is a sci-fi story about a junior high school science teacher who is recruited to help save earth from impending doom.  To do this, he has to find the solution to the problem by going to another star, and while there he runs into a alien ship that's trying to solve the same problem to save its planet.

It's very compelling and filled with a ton of science facts, but not so many that it turns you off unless you're a science nerd.  Very enjoyable.

Currently Reading Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey. I'm obligated to read his entire Expanse Series for research. I'll probably finish this by 2050 amongst the rest of his 100 novels (he wrote 10 books for this series).

I'm satisfied with Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli Here's to Us, the sequel to their book What if It's Us.

There's something satisfying to know Ben and Arthur have a proper send-off. Neither of them cheat on their current lovers, but I honestly would not have blamed them if they did. They dealt with adult relationship issues and handled things pretty well with all things considered.

I'll write a full review of this book at some point.

I also finished If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzalez, a book about the love affair between two members of a boy band, which is interesting.

--------

Currently reading: Playing the Palace by Paul Rudnick, will it be as good as Red, White, and Royal Blue?

I just finished Dante and Aristotle dive in to the waters of the world, and was still processing it when Donovan Carillo turned up at the Olympics doing his thing.   It was a lovely read,  and a weird  bit of synchronicity  in my day.

Heh,  there's lots of it alright.  Keen to hear what you think of the series  when you're done.   (Yes, I'm aware you have 4000ish  pages to go)

I just finished The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers.  It was an amazing book they left me haunted much like that freeze frame in the last shot of Les Quatre Cents Coups (The 400 Blows) by Francois Truffaut.  I don't know if it is just me, but I am still turning over the characters and story in my mind trying to understand it all.  In my opinion, it is about queerness (or LGBTQ if you prefer) in the deep south before it could be expressed openly among other things.

I also just finished My Autobiography of Carson McCullers by Jenn Shapland.  This was another amazing book that explores queer identity and is a fascination look at both the author and Carson McCullers.  I feel enriched for having read them both.

I've just finished reading Never Rest by Marshall Thornton. It's described as a modern take on Frankenstein but it could equally well fit in with the zombie genre. It's told in the 1st person POV of a 19 year old gay guy dying of leukemia. His mother is so desperate to save his life she signs him up for a very questionable experimental treatment. As he gradually realizes exactly what has been done to him he is also falling in love with another of the patients, Goth, a boy who is dying of cystic fibrosis. There are some truly horrible and memorable moments in this book and the ending will leave you thinking for a long time.

Copper, Iron, and Clay: A Smith's Journey. Written by Sara Dahmen, a master coppersmith, who explains how copper cookware is forged and maintained. Sara also includes chapters about the manufacture and use of cast iron and ceramic vessels, as well as recipes to put in them. An excellent book for anyone who owns (or is thinking of owning) copper dishes.

How would you compare the books with the Amazon series?

I think its like any other film/TV adaptation, the book is almost always better, it is the case here. In the books the authors can put a lot more detail in than in a TV series.

Now having said that, I really like the TV series, but...

I'm currently reading 'The Last Herald-Mage' trilogy.

This is my third time through and it still tears at my heartstrings.

Wow!

Just finished reading "Anything But Fine", by Tobias Madden. I wanted to see Luca growing stronger and overcoming his injury so he could dance ballet again after injuring his foot. I hoped that the story would be focused on Luca's journey through healing and personal growth.

Instead, it was simply a setup for another Insta-love story. The love interest was toxic and closeted, someone with whom Luca had no business being involved.
