One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 34. wonder
.
Sonnet No. 67
I take you in my arms, and you tremble –
At that moment I'm forced to remember
That when you say you love me with voice humble,
I'm the first to love within you stir.
You did not forget to mark the day we met,
So my fears were unjustified complete,
And had I voiced them we'd both be upset,
But, Providence blessed us to be upbeat.
That I am your first love is an honor –
And sends me to my knees as I kiss your brow,
For you my love, don’t know what you're in for,
As I'll mark our anniversary, and how.
Close your eyes and let your first love show you,
He has experience enough for two.
Sonnet No. 68
Sometimes I wonder if I can even say
That yes, I know you well, for seemingly
You and I grow closer with every day,
Yet miss the other's most heartfelt, aching plea.
When you say I provide comfort, and that's all,
You do not mean to hurt me, but you do,
For I am in your deep connection's thrall,
Like a binder's stitch to you through and through.
But, it is only fair that we must learn
The way the other expresses his thought,
And not to interpret that as a spurn,
To strew the path ahead with dangers fraught.
You say what you want, and in your own way,
And in my heart, judgment I will defray.
