Ravings of a Rabid Werewolf - Poetry by Wolf - 36. What is home?

It looks just as it did,

With my old bike by the front door.

I had brief second thoughts,

But with your love I have the strength;

Still, uncertainty reigns.

A knock on the door commits me.

The face is familiar,

I know the woman who greets me.

Recognition sets in,

And her eyes harden to a glare.

Not a hint of remorse,

Only venom and bile are shown.

Gracefully bowing out,

I bid the old woman farewell.

Returning to your side,

My home is with the one I love.

For the first time in twelve years, I visited my grandparent’s home. From a Facebook post years ago I knew I didn’t exist in their eyes. My expectations low and I was not disappointed. I did have a slight hope of reconciliation. My boyfriend felt bad for encouraging the visit. He couldn’t grasp a family treating their grandchild like that until he heard her words, “You’re dead to us. You have stayed that way.” I’ll never know what my parents told them about me, but the look in her eyes at seeing me said enough. I tried and this gave me a final farewell to my original family. They have no power to hurt me anymore.

******

We share the same surname;

Yet our blood that flows is distant.

A chance meeting online,

Guided me towards your quaint inn.

Open arms greeted us;

As new ties to old blood forged.

We come from one large tree,

And I see it can still flower.

I've pruned what was poisoned,

So I can embrace what remains

I had met someone in an online game with the same surname. We talked and identified common family backgrounds. He became the first family member I’d had contact with in years. That led me staying at his aunt and uncle’s inn on the Isle of Skye. Acceptance of their nephew carried over to my boyfriend and me. We were welcomed as if they’d known me my entire life. Again, my boyfriend’s love and encouragement has brought additional joy to my life.

Hugs for you both.  i know too well that feeling about the rejection by family.  But you know didn't expect much else.  i hoped right up until my father asked to see me and on his death bed damned me once again. You have chosen your family ... here online and the man you will marry. And some others who accept you like their own son.. the rest ... well. Michael reminded me of this from the bible the other day:

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

If it were true.. some would be in for a nasty surprise.

Wonderful poems.. thanks for sharing both them and your pain and more.. your joy. Love You, my friend. xo

I am sorry you had to go through that. But those people don't deserve you. They deserve their bitterness and to be judged as they judge others, as tim posted. I have no patience for people like them.

You have many who love you and they are the ones that matter.

Keep sharing your wonderful work with us.

Hugs for the first one, and YAY for the second. These two are so perfectly arranged with A-side and B-side symmetry, the effect hits home pretty strong.

Hugz to you tim :hug: I know what I was going to get and was ready for it. Seeing my old bike out front and hearing a young voice inside, the only pain I felt was knowing the little brother I'll never get to meet was feet away from me. I may have stopped at the village church to show my boy some of the places I used to go. And it wasn't my fault the reverend was there and recognized me. So people who know my gran know her grandson didn't die after all. ;)

I wanted to go through it and see if I would be turned away or open a discussion. I can walk away knowing I tried and these people cannae hurt me any more. I have a new family that loves and respects me. I've also met people who are distant relations and are more than happy to have me in their life and back in the clan.

Two very good poems! Like many others, I feel the first poem is a sad comment. Other emotions include confusion and anger. The second poem expresses hope and happiness. Thanks for both.

Great work. Thank you for posting it. You inspired me to post the short little poem I wrote concerning my father, and his ... "acceptance."

And thanks to tim for pointing me at your poem.
