A Hobson Choice from an old TV show

Not sure, how many of you were fans of this old TV show, I caught it in re-runs growing up, but even after a decade, the show still holds a strong resonance for me.   http://youtu.be/NI-qCUK_G4U   Early Edition was brilliant in many ways, because in almost every episode, a regular guy named Gary Hobson had to make choices for people and their fates based on a Newspaper that foretold tomorrow's events and tragedy.   This particular episode is remembered by fans as one of the great classic

First Night

Pandora   After clearing security and going down two different elevators, I guessed that I was at least 500 meters underground. The corridor had heavy steel blast doors with key card locks and biohazard signs every 50 meters. The deeper into the facility that we went, the higher the biohazard protection level of the labs that lined the corridors.   I asked the guard what the USAMARID needed from the Dept. of Homeland Security and he told me that answer was well above his pay grade.   We fi

Sometimes I get some real winners....

Customer: I'm taking a trip to Hawaii and I need to make sure I'm set-up correctly. Me: starts to go over her nationwide plan Customer interrupts: I don't think you get it.... I'm going to Hawaii. Me: Explains Hawaii is covered under her plan. Customer: I really don't think you understand. I am going to Hawaii. Me: Detail again explaining Hawaii is covered under nationwide. Customer: I don't think you get... I'm going to call back.

Cleansing of the Past and an Old Story Found

My room is a mess. I admit it. Old receipts in Amazon boxes, CDs full of back up data scattered around, all sort of books and research papers, and accumulation of memories from different stages of my life among other things.... I am recovering from the grand trench of growing pain for some while now, but those mementos keep reminding me of such unhappy past, as if they do not want to part with me, in fear I would find happiness. I have been wanting to shake off those who are still pulling my

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor   Anybody who wants this job shouldn't have it. They would just be thugs. The people who should have it burn out or flip out. Philip Baker was just trying to hang on to his retirement and self respect.   Once being a special agent for the Bureau was a respectable job. That was the job he had signed on for twenty-seven years ago. That seemed like a long time ago. Before the wars. Before the genetically engineered plagues were released. Before the Night of the 13th Prophet when

Perfection is Overrated

Our very cosmopolitan world is so driven by consumer focus and the image of perfection, that in many ways it is almost as if we have lost sight of our humanity. We want to be seen in the best, by the best, with the best. It is all about perception and what we can or can't portray of ourselves to the world we live in.   Be it trends on the catwalk, labels in the stores, the very latest tech gadgets, the most bling, the best car.... From our homes to the nails we have glued to our hands, it is

Adjustments

Coming down off Cloud 99 is a somewhat bitter sweet experience. I think everyone has experienced the short, sharp slap of reality as you loose the sense of euphoria that you have enjoyed being caught up in the whirlwind of being in a new place, meeting new people, thriving on new experiences. The acute sense of normalcy is kind of difficult to take, the monotony of boredom is suddenly very real once more and you cannot help but reflect back on how while you were away every nano second seemed to

What to do

So... for quite sometime I have been looking for a new job. One of my friends/colleague wants me to stay with VzW. I initially wanted to because we get a bonus every year and pay increase, which is unheard of in many jobs. The problem is the job makes me sick and I mean literately and I can't go to work because when you're in a call center you have to be available and on the phones.   I've tried posting within my current organization and had tons of interviews (Let's just say to the tune for 5

My short story, The Unintended Consequences, ideas and concepts

While my story is short, it carries some interesting ideas.   My story is quite sad, but within it I tried to give people a deeper understanding on the issue of peaceful resistance against foes such as the businessman in my story. A critical flaw in the concept of nonviolence is that nonviolent solution requires human beings to have equal consciences and equal beliefs in what is right and wrong. Morality is relative to a culture, whether it is Christian, Islamic, Taoist, Hindi, or any other be

No idea

I wake up in tears and I wish I knew why. This may be the start of my literal break down.   Maybe it's work? I've been so stressed about it lately. Shoots are going to be done, fashion week is about to start, the constant flying, and everything else. I think that it's starting to take a toll on me. The problem is that I keep pushing, it's like I have no limit. When it becomes too much, I shrug it all of and keep going.   School also starts soon. It's going to be stressful, especially if work

Ex's

So, in the last week, mine and my hubby's past have seemed to make themselves known. Just a few days ago I ran into my ex mother-in-law and oh boy was that awkward, but so not the reason I'm writing this blog. LOL.   Anyways. If you read my status update, you already know that hubby and I went to a Joe Diffie / Sammy Kershaw concert. We had a great time, but it was certainly not without it's moments.   First off, the first area we were standing there were a lot of obnoxious drunks in fro

The War Inside

The War Inside   Stardate 43887.3 Dr. Walter Ingalls, Starfleet Medical Personal log.   At the request of the Angosian government, Star Fleet has dispatched a team of doctors and other specialist to help rehabilitate veteran's of the Tarsian War.   When I first got this assignment, I thought that we would make quick and easy progress. Nothing could be further from the truth. What I first thought were symptoms of severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a much more complicated condition

A poem from the past

The Hangman   Shall we hang alone or hang together: By Maurice Ogden   Into our town the hangman came, smelling of gold and blood and flame. He paced our bricks with a different air, and built his frame on the courthouse square. The scaffold stood by the courthouse side, only as wide as the door was wide with a frame as tall, or a little more, than the capping sill of the courthouse door.   And we wondered whenever we had the time, Who the criminal? What the crime?

London Olympics and the Palace of Fine Arts

Olympics Opening Ceremony has become a show case of the host country's cultural heritage to the world. This year, 2012, people of London have the honor to host the event. While I have limited access to the broadcasting of Olympics, I caught a few clips of the opening ceremony, and it is a job well done.   Let's go to the U.S. for a bit to introduce a parallel story of a city I love greatly (don't worry, I'll bring the attention back to London later on).   San Francisco is the fog city of t

Social Grace

It seems to me social grace has slowly become a lost art. A shame really, as I believe that is one of the most attractive features a person can acquire simply by practicing it. It can greatly improve one's aura of presence, as well as a general improvement of one's social function.   What is social grace? thesaurus.com lists it as "good manner." The list of synonyms includes: good breeding, civility, decorum, consideration, courtesy, tact, etc.. Generally speaking, a woman or a man who ca

Gore Vidal

The fantastic gay writer Gore Vidal died yesterday at the age of 86. Today the national media is full of obits, in fact, too many to compete with. Wikipedia has a terrific article that I recommend reading. My introduction to Gore Vidal was his memoir Palimpsest. I honestly tried to read his historical novels, but we didn't click.

The Swiss National Day

The Swiss National Day is the national holiday of Switzerland, set on August 1.   In 1291, the cantons of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden united to defend the peace upon the death of Emperor Rudolf I of Habsburg. Their union, one nucleus of the Old Swiss Confederacy, is recorded in the Federal Charter.   If it’s true that you can judge a country’s image of itself by its National Day, then Switzerland definitely offers a relaxing sight. No military parades and no grandiose speeches on Lebensrau

A Clockwork Orange and the Wellness of the Modern Society

All of you must have heard of the recent Colorado Shooting thing. The guy randomly shot people to death at a Colorado Theater that was showing Dark Knight Rises, then made a joke that he was a joker when he was arrested.   We've had massacres before, Columbine, Virginia Tech and many others, but this is the first time in many years that the perpetrator of such scale was caught alive. All previous executors of the massacre committed suicide at the end. I suppose lashing out at people wasn't

Brief Hello

An early start is never a good thing after a long night of partying. My hearing is still recovering, my head is still fuzzy and my tummy has been cursing me most of the day. But it was all as a result of my own self indulgence, so while I do feel rough, I am so glad I do.   Does that make any sense at all?   Heck, I don't know who managed to see what, last night was just amazingly chaotic, but in a hugely good way. From 4pm when I got there, the Olympic Park was buzzing. The London Olympic
