It was growing against the boundary wall in the lower garden. I pruned it back almost to the ground at the end of last year. It's since sent up new shoots, some of which are about 5 foot (1.5 meters) tall, and have quite dark red flowers.

I had a similiar rose. It's actually the wild rose root stock used for climbing roses. Before I cut it back it had canes nearly 40 foot long. It only flowered in the spring but would be covered in blooms.
