Popular Post kbois Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 She was an absolute legend. The United Kingdom has lost a true gem. Heartfelt condolences to her family as well as you, and your fellow countrymen. 12
Popular Post Mancunian Posted September 8, 2022 Author Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 Thank you @kbois, I'm feeling quite emotional at just now. I feel as though I've lost another member of my own family, I know in my own heart that there will be many who will feel the same as I do. 12
Popular Post sandrewn Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) @Mancunian I am one of the many who feel the same way. We knew it was coming, but the shock is no less. I mentioned to you once, that I met her at the Union Jack Club in London, on February 12th 1976. So on that day Her Majesty came to our (three of us) table and asked me, my name, where I lived, what my job was in Egypt (UN duty) and how I liked England. Most replies were, Yes ma'am and No Ma'am (slightly intimidated, or what). When ever I thought (think) of her, it is that face I see, that voice I hear in my mind (from 46 years ago) and will for ever more. She kept her word & promise and served to the very end. Popular Post Bill W Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 Seventy years on the throne is no small feat. I'm amazed by how many US Presidents came and went during her reign, which puts how long her reign was for those of us in the US. A truly amazing and remarkable woman who gave her all for the nation she ruled over. May she rest and peace, now that she's reunited with Prince Phillip again. Now it's time for Charles to become king, but his reign should be short, considering how old he is as he finally gets the position, and then it will be William's turn. It looks like Charles III, followed by William V. 12 1
Popular Post Daddydavek Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 My condolences to everyone on site who is a citizen of a country that recognized her as head of state and to all the Commonwealth countries who maintained ties. Her example of service and rectitude were unmatched and an example for everyone. 4 7
Popular Post Mawgrim Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 It really feels like the end of an era. For all of my life, Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne. We all knew it would happen one day, but when it does, it's still a shock. 8 3
Popular Post James Carnarvon Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) Whatever your views on the monarchy, there has never been a more dedicated servant of the British people. She has reigned for all my life and, indeed, most of my parents' lives. RIP Queen Elizabeth II. Edited September 9, 2022 by James Carnarvon 1 11

As if an underpinning has suddenly been removed. Can't say I'm a monarchist but nobody should fault a long life given in service. She only received the outgoing and incoming UK prime ministers two days ago. It's going to be so weird thinking and saying 'King'. 9 3
Popular Post Headstall Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 I loved her because my Scottish grandmother loved her, as did my mother. R.I.P. Lillibet. 6 6
Site Administrator Popular Post Valkyrie Posted September 8, 2022 Site Administrator Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 She was the epitome of grace and a true servant to her people. She was also an avid horsewoman and patron of horse sport. She did a lot to preserve endangered breeds and promote horsemanship. I mourn her loss with the rest of the world. 3 8
Popular Post Zombie Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 what everyone has said it’s odd to feel grief, and to shed tears for someone you have never met (although I saw her twice) but as has been said by so many others, she was the grandmother of the nation and many other nations too and who doesn’t love their grandmother? 9
Site Administrator Popular Post wildone Posted September 9, 2022 Site Administrator Popular Post Posted September 9, 2022 I was somewhat caught off guard with the passing of our Queen. Actually was quite emotional when I heard the news and then when listening or watching the TV news. I knew she was of declining health and she wouldn't be with us for long, but the actual passing was a shock to me. I was explaining to Krista how the Queen probably means so much to me growing up in Canada. From elementary school (grades 1-6) all school assemblies were started off with Oh Canada and always concluded with God Save the Queen. She was on all our currency in one way or another. She was on most stamps until Canada Post started to move away and recognize others, but most historical stamps during her reign was her portrait. I remember going to hockey games, concerts and other events in our early days hockey rink, with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip up in the rafters with the Canadian flag and the Union Jack between them. These portraits must have been around 12 feet high by 6 wide, nothing small about them. Our courts in Alberta were Court of Queens Bench. We had a Governor General nationally and in provinces the Lieutenant Governor representing the Queen in Canada. She and Philip loved her visits to Canada from what I could see. Engaging, personable and trying to meet with as many people as possible. She engaged with First Nations reserves, she took pride in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the regiments with Royal names in our Canadian Armed Forces. I saw her in passing when she was in Calgary to celebrate our province's 100th birthday. At the time their was a contest for students in the province to write about what Alberta meant to them. My best friends father was a public school (non private in North America ) principal and one of his students was a winner. The student and himself, as principle, were invited for a reception to meet the Queen and have lunch with her and other winners. I don't believe other politicians were involved. She met everyone and had a chat with each and everyone of them, thanking him for his service as she called it. My friends father mentioned many times after that after his wedding and birth of his two children, this was the most monumental times in his life. Why am I telling this? Just so you understand how she has been with me so to speak my entire life. I tried to follow her and her family when I could. Our country is based on the Queen as our head of state, and Constitutional Monarchy style of government. She has sporting events named after her in Canada. She has awards and honors in her name. She has historic sites and such named after her, including a lot of schools All of this made me feel close to her and felt like she was actually a small part of my life. God bless Queen Elizabeth II, may you forever rest in peace. 😢 2 14
Popular Post Timothy M. Posted September 10, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 10, 2022 Denmark was all set to celebrate our Queen Margrethe's 50 years' reign this weekend, but that has been toned down quite a lot out of respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth. I'd guess most Danes are able to emphasize with the loss, as we know a similar situation is awaiting us some years in the future. 8
Popular Post Mancunian Posted September 10, 2022 Author Popular Post Posted September 10, 2022 (edited) Following the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II today the official proclamations have been made that King Charles III is our King and of all British Overseas Territories and the Head of The Commonwealth. This has taken place with all of the pomp and ceremony that is steeped in hundreds of years of tradition. God Save The Queen. Long Live The King. Edited September 10, 2022 by Mancunian 6 2

My grandmother was a British subject, one of the ethnic Chinese families that migrated to British Burma (now Myanmar) in the 19th century for business ventures. She and Queen Elizabeth were born in the same year, now sadly it seems that they have both passed in the same year. My grandmother passed in February 8th 2022, the Queen on September 8th 2022. To her, the Queen was an abstract ideal, someone with authority and a role model that other women could look up to within traditional male-dominated societies. This strength carried my grandmother through the Myanmar ethnic purges of the 1950's and, when they were forced to leave, China during the cultural revolution. Queen Elizabeth II was a force to behold in her time, a monarch who reigned at the end of the British Empire and saw the transformation of the UK through several crises both internal and external. Her visits to this wonderful country always celebrated. She made 22 trips here over the years. Her loss, is as you say heart breaking. I was and am surprised at how this has affected me. We are lucky to have had her in our lives. She was a beacon and a light. 10

I'm sorry her celebration has had to be toned down. I'm not a fan of royals in general, but I am a fan of Queen Margrethe's. Since she ascended the throne at a later age than Elizabeth did, her chances of surpassing Elizabeth's record are unfortunately slim. My condolences to the peoples of the various nations where Queen Elizabeth was sovereign. She was another admirable lady and will be greatly missed. I must say that King Charles has been handling the loss very well, from what I've seen. No matter how well-prepared one thinks oneself, the moment of loss always comes as a shock. It's a toss-up whether the press of duties is a valuable distraction or a hindrance to dealing with grief. 1 5
