A prompt a week - 40. Well, Did He? - prompt 510

Based off prompt 510

“Do you really think he did it?” Robbie stared at his mother, his spoon halfway to his mouth. “First, don’t talk with your mouth full,” Margie sighed as she put the milk into the fridge. “Secondly, did who do what?” Robbie swallowed his cereal before he spoke again. “Do you think Anthony proposed last night? “ Margie turned to look at her youngest son. “How do you know he was planning to propose?” “Moooom!” Robbie squealed. “I was with him when he got the ring.” Margie shook her head and finished cleaning up the kitchen. “I know as much as you do. When he proposes I guess we will find out.” Robbie padded across the kitchen and put his bowl and spoon in the sink. “I'm gonna go get dressed. Wanna be ready for Anthony when he gets home.” “Don’t forget to wash your face and hands. Oh, and pick up that towel from your bath! I’m your mother not your maid!” Once Robbie was safely busy at the other end of the house, Margie slipped her cell phone out. There still was no message. She bit her bottom lip and was just starting to scroll for her son’s cell phone number when she heard his car pulling into the driveway. She sat, trying to be patient, and waited for him to come in. “Hi Mom,” Tony said as he set down his bag and looked around the kitchen. “Where is Robbie?” Margie rolled her eyes and gripped the edge of the table. “Your brother is getting ready to spend the day with you.” She took a deep breath. “Well?” “Well, what?” “Anthony Christopher Williams did you finally propose last night or not?” Tony laughed. “Wow! All three names.” He stopped laughing when he spotted the look his mother was giving him. “Tony … I mean Anthony, you’re home!” Robbie came running into the kitchen and launched himself at his older brother. “Hey kiddo. Aren’t you getting a bit big for this?” asked Tony as he caught his brother midair and brought him in for a hug. Margie watched her sons with a mixture of pride and anxiety. However, before she could say anything her youngest beat her to the punch. “So, are you getting married?” Tony smiled and looked at his brother. “Yup. Rahiem said yes.” “Finally,” screamed Robbie. Margie and Tony looed at him and laughed. “Are we meeting him at the movies?” Robbie held tight to his brother. “Yes. He said he couldn’t wait to go see that cartoon with his brother-in-law.” “Who is his brother-in-law, Tony?” Robbie looked wide eyed at his brother. Tony smiled and ruffled Robbie hair. “You are, silly.” “Oh, okay. Can we get popcorn?” Robbie was nearly jumping in place. “You can get popcorn, but don’t buy him candy Anthony, your brother is hyper enough.” Margie looked at her sons knowing that would be ignored. “Yes, mom.” Tony turned and winked at Robbie, who giggled. “Why do I even bother?” Margie shook her head. “I expect to see you all back here for dinner. Nothing fancy dinner, but I want to see the ring.” Tony walked over and kissed his mother on the cheek. “Yes, mom. Come on, kiddo. Time to go see that movie of yours.” Margie watched her sons head out to Tony car and just wished their father could have lived to see how great their sons were turning out.

A nice vignette. And I would never have the patience to do that on a phone!

Thanks Dad. You'd be amazed at what you can do when you have no choice.

Nice prompt response! You said quite a lot in few words, which is something I myself find so hard to do.
