Tristan's High School Life - 6. Chapter 6
TJ’s POV
I heard a cracking sound and turned my head to see the school stained glass that said “Respect is for those who deserve it, not those who demand it.” Within a blink of an eye it went to thousands of pieces and fell to ground. I grasped Tristan’s hand as I knew he needed to be grounded before things got worse.
“Calm down and let me sort this out” I said to Tristan telepathically and I got no response.
“Mrs. Graves, this is getting out of hand” I said
“Out of hand” Mrs. Graves shouted “Which one of you broke my window?”
“Now did you see either one of us go near the window?” I questioned
“You may have thrown something” Mrs. Graves said “My window had to pay the price just because he cut class”
“Tristan did not break your precious window.” I said firmly
“I am going for expulsion now, destroying school property. Someone call the police” Mrs. Graves demanded
I pulled out my phone and texted CC, Jack and Jackson and told them the situation.
“This is completely outrageous.” I said as the cops entered the school
“Arrest those men for damaging school property” Mrs. Graves said to the officers and by pure luck Jack walked through the door followed by Tracy.
“What is going on here?” Jack said to the officers
“Who are you?” Mrs. Graves said angrily
“I am Jack Woolery and this my husband Tracy Craft” Jack replied
“Why are you here?” the officer asked
“We are Tristan’s grandfathers and legal representation” Jack said “I also would like to see what proof you have of my son in law and grandson of breaking the window”
“We don’t need any proof, they did it” Mrs. Graves said
“I’m sorry ma’am without anything showing these two broke the window we can’t do anything.” the officer said
“You have my word; he’s just hiding behind privilege.” Mrs. Graves said
“Ma’am, what do you mean?” the officer replied just as CC, Jackson and the police commissioner came walking in “Good afternoon Madam Mayor, Commissioner”
“Jack, good to see you.” The commissioner shaking Jack’s hand and the look on the principal’s face was getting redder by the minute.
“Is there somewhere we can all go and talk?” CC said
“Oh no, I’m am not allowing you anywhere else where you can break anything” Mrs. Graves said
“Agnes, that is a bit of an overreaction” Superintendent Mills said walking into the office
“Ah Hayley, right on schedule” CC said
“Thank you for calling me Caroline, we need to settle this. I had to fight the press coming in, seems they followed you from City Hall” Hayley said “Let’s move this to the conference room. Gladys, would you have them clean up the glass.”
“Yes, Ms. Superintendent” The secretary said
We walked into the conference room and everyone took their seats and Tristan took the seat between Jackson and I.
“Let’s get down to business, Mr. Campbell please tell us what transpired” Hayley asked smiling at Tristan trying to ease the tension
“Let me explain” Principal Graves started to say but she was cut off
“Agnes, I asked Mr. Campbell, you will get your turn” Hayley said irritated
“Go ahead buddy” Jackson said putting his hand on Tristan’s shoulder for confidence
“I had a bit of anxiety attack and left school. I went uptown to the cemetery to sit with my great Grandpa’s and to think” Tristan said
“When he got there he let Jackson and I know and we went to meet him to make sure he was ok and talk with him.” I said placing my hand on his
“My assistant called to let me know that TJ left the office in a hurry but I didn’t know what was going on and the school had called me before I had a chance to find out what was going on” CC said
“Once we talked, Dad brought me back to school. That’s when Principal Graves confronted me in the office about skipping and the zero tolerance policy.” Tristan said
“First, Tristan you cannot just walk off school property anytime you want. During school hours we are responsible for you and if you were to get hurt we could be liable. Explain this zero tolerance policy.” Hayley said
“Principal Graves said that since I skipped out I would be suspended” Tristan said
“I see” Hayley said clearing her throat “Agnes anything to add?”
“Yes, he’s skipped before and this is his second infraction and I can’t cut him slack because of who his grandmother is. When I told him of his suspension one of these two broke my stained glass window” Mrs. Graves said
“So skipping school gets you more time off? Who on earth approved this variation from the district’s guidance?” Hayley asked
“It’s been our policy for a while” Principal Graves said
“That’s not what I asked” Hayley replied “I am going to do a few things here, first Agnes you and the assistant principal are hear by suspended pending an investigation into the practices here. Second an investigation into who broke the glass will also be conducted until that is sorted I am ordering a tutor for Mr. Campbell so while the investigation is conducted he doesn’t miss anymore school.”
“This is unfair” Principal graves said
“Life is not fair Agnes” Hayley said “I need to make sure this school is following the guidance set forth by the school board.
“This is my school, I can do what I want” Principal Graves said defiantly
“You are the Principal not a dictator” Hayley said “Commissioner could your team escort Agnes out?”
“Men, please help Mrs. Graves out. If I am not needed I am going to leave” the Commissioner said
“Thank you for coming Leroy” CC said
“Glad to be of help, Madam Mayor” he replied tipping his hat
“Now, Tristan I am ordering you a tutor and you are to remain off school property until I get to the bottom of this” Hayley said “I don’t think TJ or yourself had anything to do with the window but I need to stop the rumor mill”
I glanced at Tristan who had his head down and I knew exactly what he was thinking.
“I broke it” Tristan said quietly
“What did you say?” Hayley asked and I could see the shock on her face
“It’s just Mrs. Graves wouldn’t hear anything and called us liars.” Tristan said
“How did you break it?” Hayley asked
“I did it with my mind.” Tristan replied “I just tried to stop myself but I was so angry”
“Tristan, thank you for being honest with me; let’s just keep this between us?” Hayley said looking around the room.
“Sounds like a good plan” Jack said and the others nodded
“Tristan, would you like to come back to school with me?” Tracy asked
Tristan looked at Jackson and I and we both nodded
“I would love to grandpa” Tristan said excitedly
“You know he just wants to watch the shirtless dancers” I said getting a laugh from everyone
“In that case, may I join you?” Hayley asked with a chuckle
“If you want to” Tristan said embarrassed
“I was only kidding” Hayley said and there was a knock at the door “Come in”
“I’m sorry Mrs. Mills but with Principal Graves and Mr. Kellogg being escorted out who is in charge?” Gladys asked
“Please send for Andrew Cartwright” Hayley said
“Yes, Ma’am” Gladys replied closing the door
“You guys are free to go” Hayley said “Tristan someone will reach out with your tutors information”
“Yes Ma’am” Tristan said politely
We got up and walked out passing Mr. Cartwright on the way out and nodding hello. Once we got to the lobby we stopped to chat really quick
“Tristan, I am proud of how you handled yourself in the room” I said
“Yes, you handled it very maturely” Jackson said
“Yes Tristan, aside from everything you controlled yourself” CC said
“Ok, let’s all meet for dinner tonight. I need to get back to campus” Tracy said “We can continue this later”
“I think my husband wants to see some hot guys dancing” Jack said
“Maybe I’ll dance for you tonight” Tracy said and Jack blushed
“Ewww gross” Jackson said making us laugh
Tristan’s POV
“I am going to see if we can’t have you tutor come over to the campus; that way you can be closer to me” Grandpa Tracy said
“I’d love to be on campus with your grandpa, it beats being at home or in the office with TJ.” I said
“You’re a good kid Tristan and I think you’ll like it here” Grandpa said opening the door to Auditorium “Now sit in here and watch the classes, if you need me you know where my office is”
“Yeah I do Grandpa, thanks” I said
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t” Grandpa said with a wink and he left
I sat watching the different classes and I loved seeing the boys in tights as they left nothing to the imagination. The next class came in and was getting ready and I wasn’t paying attention until they got on the stage. Once class got underway I looked up and was shocked at who was up there, was I being set-up?
Bonus points to you if you know where the Superintendents name is from.
