Tristan's High School Life - 40. Chapter 40

Tristan's POV

Beep, beep
What is that annoying sound? Why does my head hurt?
My eyes flutter open, and I saw Xander next to me holding my hand, but his eyes are closed. Something was in my mouth, so I squeezed his hand.

"Tristan!" Xander shouted. "He's awake."
"I'll go get a doctor," I heard Jackson say.
"I'm so glad you are awake," Xander said, tears coming down his face.
"It's ok," TJ said, moving the hair from my eyes and noticed my panic. "Let the doctor come check on you."
Jackson returned with a Doctor in tow and a few others. I was so confused and scared.
"Mr. Michaels, you gave us quite the scare," the Doctor said to me.
He removed the tube in my mouth and told me not to try and talk as my throat would be raw. The nurse gave me ice chips and told me to suck on them.
"Tristan!" Hunter said, coming into the room.
"We will have to run some test, but it is a good sign that he woke up," the Doctor said to TJ and Jackson.
"It's been a painful three months," TJ said, his voice breaking and Jackson pulled him close.
"Yes, as we discussed the injuries he got from the blast and then hitting the sidewalk. He was fortunate that the gentleman came to his aid fairly quickly," the Doctor said
"Kaiden saved several lives that day," TJ said.
"Is he awake?" I heard Rory say.
"Yes," Jackson replied, and he and TJ moved, and Mack was pushing Rory in a wheelchair. Why did he have casts? What blast?
"Brudder?" I said telepathically.
"I'm here, honey," TJ said.
"I'm scared," I said, and tears started to flow.
"It's ok, you're safe now," TJ said and came and took Xander's place and gripped my hand.
"You scared us," Hunter said out loud, and I just looked at him.
"Mister Mayor, Mr. Michaels, could we talk privately," the Doctor said. TJ and Jackson reluctantly left with the Doctor. Mr. Mayor? Wait, where's Grandma? I started to panic, and I could hear the monitor beginning to go crazy. I saw Hunter place his hand on my leg, and I felt a warming sensation and then nothing.

TJ's POV

"I need you to remember that Tristan may suffer from amnesia. He took quite the hit from the blast," the Doctor said
"Do you think it could be long-term or short-term?" Jackson questioned.
"I really can't say; the brain is a fickle thing. Tristan could remember the accident today, tomorrow, or never; there is no way to know," The Doctor said.
"How long will he need to be here?" I asked
"We need to observe him and make sure that everything is ok. I don't want to send him home without a full check-up," the Doctor said.
"Thank you for what you've done for our son," I said.
"No problem, and I am very sorry for your loss," the Doctor said
"Thank you," Jackson said, and the Doctor left. "We have a long road ahead of us."
"Yeah, I need to spend the rest of my life apologizing to Tristan," I said.
"Listen, you both fought a lot, and I know he talked with CC about it. Let's see what happens," Jackson said
"I'm the one who drove him to hate me and spend the day with CC," I said, falling into the chair in the waiting room.
"TJ, you had nothing to do with CC dying and Tristan getting hurt. Hunter explained this was supposed to happen, and there was nothing we could do to stop it," Jackson said.
"Not knowing why is killing me," I said
"Kaiden knew something, but he won't say what," Jackson said
"I know; why the heck was he at City Hall," I said.
"To save Tristan," Kaiden said, coming into the room.
"What?" I said rather loudly.
"There were parts of the premonition that Hunter and Tristan didn't see. CC saw them after I warned her someone was coming for her and Tristan," Kaiden said.
"Why Tristan?" I asked
"One of the agencies I work with showed me the threat, and it was credible, but we never knew when and where. The day it happened, I just knew I was supposed to be at City Hall, and I needed to call Tristan away from the car," Kaiden said.
"Who the hell wants to blow up a 16-year-old," I screamed.
"TJ, understand they have been working on tracking the people responsible down. When I told CC about it, she insisted that I make sure Tristan was safe," Kaiden said
"Do you have any suspects?" Jackson asked.
"Yes, we do, but you know I can't tell you," Kaiden said.
"Why are you here and not looking for suspects," I said harshly.
"I heard he woke up. I can't work the case because of how close it is for me, and if it gets out that I knew about the threat, those people could lose their jobs," Kaiden said.
"What do we do?" I asked.
"Be patient. I know it's been a long three months but know I am constantly asking for updates," Kaiden said.
"Do we need to increase our security further?" Jackson asked.
"It wouldn't hurt, especially for Tristan," Kaiden said
"I've had the best on his door 24/7," I said.
"I also know Hunter put some protection charm on the room," Jackson said.
"Did the sweep of the building result in anything," I asked?
Kaiden hesitated and looked like he was trying to decide what to say.
"Out with it," Jackson said, irritated.
"Yes, it did. Somehow the intruders got past the doorman, and both CC's and Tristan's places were full of explosives. It was enough to level the entire block, and even the elevator was set-up," Kaiden said.
"That's completely crazy," I said.
"I agree. The bomb squad has swept the building, and the team assigned to the case has been reviewing the building security to see how the intruder got past," Kaiden said.
"This is very troubling," I said
"I am glad you've been able to stay out of the spotlight, and you beefed up security at City Hall," Kaiden said
"Well, Jackson's here most of the time, and I spend time at work and here," I said.
"I need to go, but know I am working on making things safe for you," Kaiden said and then left.
"This is a lot to swallow," Jackson said
"Yes, it is. I want to know who the hell wanted to kill Tristan and CC," I snarled.
"The people who come to mind Hunter took care of," Jackson said.

Hunter's POV

Tristan going nuts was not good, and I decided to sedate him before the Doctor did. I knew from what I did he would get some rest and relax. I talked with Great-Grandma Jillian and Grandpa Tristan about Grandma CC, and they said she wasn't in spirit form but passed away. I knew how much Tristan was going to hurt from this. I needed to get to the bottom of this for my brother. From eavesdropping, I knew they were making sure both Grandma and Tristan were going to die. I was now a man on a mission.
