Disasters, Delights and Other Detours - 36. Midnight Wonder

Just one more amazing sight for which I give thanks...

Tonight the full moon is shining through the windows. It’s five degrees out, and the snow is like facets of precious stones. I dare not turn on the lights to disturb this wonder.

Wild shadows
crafted by the moonlight
reach across my snow covered rooftop,
arching and bending like dancers etched in crystal,
black against the sparkling first powder
that generous winter
left last night.
Just one tiny poem, trying inadequately to capture what I see. Thank you all for reading.

This captured the moment much more than adequately.  I had the same experience and had to sit and stare out my window for a while.  Thank you for the memory.

When you let me read this the other day, i said to you it was lovely. And the moon that night when i was lucky enough to see it, hung low on the horizon, glowing and huge. This poem will always be a reminder of that sight!

Wonderful, Parker. The moon has been exceptionally bright the last couple of days(I have no idea why), drawing me to the windows before I slip into bed, and keeping me mesmerized as I lay under the covers. Your right that no lights are needed, and should not intrude on such beauty.

This is a beautiful poem, Parker. I, too, marveled at the moon shine the last couple of nights. It was a Beaver Moon. At one point when I was up in the middle of the night, the shine and shadows were so magnified in my backyard, I couldn't will myself to go back to bed.

I like the phrase “Beaver Moon.” Where does it come from? I’m glad so many of us got to see this incredible gift of light in the night. Like you, I could not think of going to bed.

How can incandescent light compete with something so lovely, so rare? I sat and gazed out at the snow and shadow; that memory will be permanently etched in my mind. I’m glad you got to see it too.

Wasn’t it amazing? I could not keep from staring out the window, the world all shades of blue and silver and black. I hope  the poem is better than any possible photo, and I am glad we could share it.

How wonderful you saw it too! This was one of those transcendent moments, so beautiful to hold in memory. I’m very glad you think it worked.
