Disasters, Delights and Other Detours - 13. Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving. I am grateful for all of you.

Thanksgiving

Now gratefully I sing today
of blessings, gifts of love bestowed,
and friends encountered on the road,
as through our lives we made our way.

For those who helped to bear my load,
who listened with a patient ear,
and spoke to very foolish fear,
I'm thankful for the smiles they sowed.

Of simple wonders far and near,
the rising moon and forest green,
a flashing wing or runner bean,
and stars beyond the atmosphere;

for brooks which shout with water clean,
and aconite, of spring the sign,
a fervent kiss, a touch divine,
a stolen moment unforeseen;

for each of these I raise a cheer,
and contemplate with face serene
how much these myriad blessings mean
to this poor soul throughout the year.

So let me credit with this ode
the graces which may oft appear
in form of stranger, friend or peer,
whose heart with kindness overflowed.

And so my song of joys, I pray,
be ever in your heart's abode,
and in our friendship always showed,
to live all through the months to stay.

I offer you my deep thanks for reading what I post, and for our community.

I love the quote from Schweitzer. It is perfect, and suits the poem exactly. Thank you, for so many kindnesses.
