Disasters, Delights and Other Detours - 42. Armistice and Sea Journey: Two Sonnets

I've had time on my hands. You may or may not think these a wise use of those moments. All errors are my own, of course.

Armistice

How often have I told you of the tide

of molten heat that flows beneath my skin,

a flame untamed and uncontained therein

which could not be extinguished if I tried?

For decades has desire been denied;

I drowned my very self in warring din

with accusations of abhorrent sin,

and still against the carnage have I cried.

Today, I waved the flag to sue for peace,

as all my inner ramparts were revealed;

and in your arms I hoped to find release,

in gentle, sweet surrender did I yield;

a tender hand's caress made hurt to cease,

and all my last defenses came unsealed.

Sea Journey

Last night I rode a crested tide of dream

where you and I were closely intertwined,

our bodies and our spirits were combined

delectably in postures so supreme

description has no power to redeem;

together were the galaxies aligned

to shower us with pleasures so refined

each fiber of my being had to scream.

And now I have no notion but to crave

a journey as a swimmer on the sea,

to ride upon your steady ocean wave,

arising to a wondrous apogee,

anticipation on my visage grave

of plunging down unto a pleasure free.

I enjoy reading your comments, whatever they may be. Feel free to leave one.

Whew... *fans self*  I think you mislabeled these.  They clearly belong with the hottest spices on your spice rack ;)  Well done, as always.

Is this how you bring heat to cold dreary winters afternoons?

Well, you must admit it beats chopping wood. Thank you for reading these.

Should I have tacked on a warning? Not sure they went with the spice rack poems, but if they warmed your day, then so much the better. Thanks for reading these!

Well, they don't really fit stylistically, but more so with the heat factor.  ;)

Beautiful sonnets, full of passion. I love those ocean motives, if I listen closely I can hear the rhythm of the waves weaving through the sonnets. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Thank you so much for your encouraging comments. The ocean has so many themes and images to access, and they surely fit my mood as I wrote these. I’m so happy you found these and enjoyed them.

Wonderful! Um...is it hot in here?

Thanks for reading these. And no, it’s not terribly warm. The sea is just fine...

Images of battlements, ramparts, and walls needing breaching have arisen in your poems pretty frequently. I hope the Sonnet here is the ultimate statement on the theme, and now your turrets are turned over to the care of a new landlord, a loving one :)

As for the sea, it is a wonderful metaphor to talk of boundlessness, and here -- as boundless release -- it works consummately well. Another smashing pair for sure.

You’re right about the sea metaphor; it has possibilities that seem to stretch on and on. And in this case, the notion that one floats, held up by love, is really appealing.

As for battlements and walls, I have grown so weary. It is possible to surrender honorably, and happily....
