A Story is Loose

Okay, so I think every writer I know has one. It is that story you keep going back to you. Eventually you find someone who you will share part of it with but you just know it isn't done and you keep going back over it, and over it, and oh yeah, over it.   Meet my story, Fates of the World. I've only been writing it, for .... the last seven years. lol. It is one of those I write really hard on then stop go over it, rewrite it, toss out sections, begin again, finish it, toss out the ending, go

Personal Questions

A boring look into the existence of Jason Rimbaud   In the forums of GayAuthors, in the Games and Humor thread, there is an entry called Personal Questions. Basically it’s a forum game where each person asks a personal question and the next person answers the question before asking his own personal question.   As I read through all the questions and the replies, I realized that there was numerous questions I would have love to have answered. So I thought it would be a good idea if I took s

Christmas Gifts

Okay get ready cause this is going to be a quick but wild entry. First off I got a few gifts for holiday. Two of them were from people here on the site. It would be remiss of me to not to thank them, and I have. How can you go wrong with cook books or collections of comic books if you know me? They have good taste is all I can say.   The gifts from my family, well lets just say that they were lacking. Who would expect that the oddest gifts, the ones you don't know what to do with, you know you

Why is life so distracting?

I know I can't finish this story before I will have to leave on vacation.   Maybe, I should not have started playing with my tablet, but I just can't resist a new piece of tech, especially one with such sleek and elegant form.   I will write again after I come back, who knows, maybe I will write a travel blog.   See you all next year

I am writing, wohoo!

My creative juices are flowing along with coffee and urine, but it feels good.   I will attempt to write a story before I head off on vacation for fun. It will not be edited perfectly as I am not sure whether my favorite editor is around (Yes, Dannsar it's you, I did really like the way you edited my anthology story).   It will be a retro-fan fiction story that I got in my head recently after watching an old show.

Christmas Break

Going to Texas to visit my brother and his family.   Going off line- unplugged, shudown, tuned out.   Finding a cat sitter was difficult. My cat beast has a well earned reputation of being meaner than I am.   Of course no trip to North Dallas would be complete without a visit to the Opera House in Denton. http://www.recycledbooks.com/   If you are ever there check it out.   As an aside, I'm not sure if I will be back. When your ignore list is becoming unmanageable, you either have to c

Strange thing I noticed reading anthology

Did anyone take a notice at what stories seem to have the most length?   I know, I know, it doesn't matter how big the word count is, but how you write your story   I just noticed this by accident, but Bill W., Altimex, and W.L (me), were the three longest in word count.   Also, all three of us wrote science fiction stories, using different ideas and different points of view.   Just an observation

Some Special Thank You's

First to Graeme, Lugh, and Cia who worked announcing, planning and helping to get the Anthology together. Their hard work makes the stuff us writers do look so much better. They start a year in advance with getting the ideas together, having people vote, and then work it over till it shines, before it is given to us writers to put our own spin on it. Then they create skins, double check the work, and make it all go together smoothly.   Then to not only those work behind the scene deciding who

Anatomy of: A dreamer without a dream

https://www.gayauthors.org/story/w-l/adreamerwithoutadream/1   Well, it is now up for your reading pleasure.   Consider this my return to active writing again and science fiction. I have been holding back my ideas for a very long time and now I think I can explore them.   It is a social commentary brand of science fiction, so I hope it does not detract from readers. For all those who have waited, almost 2 years, for a new chapter in W.L's science fiction universe or meta-verse, this will b

Missing Stuff

I never claimed to be on top of everything. However, this year I swore I wouldn't be behind the eight ball when it came to Christmas. I bought things all year long. In fact, i even bought a few things that I could use, just in case.   So now we skip ahead to today. i did my Weight Watchers meeting (I gained a pound but I consider that good considering what is happening in my life at the moment), went to get my license and found I still didn't bring enough stuff with me to prove who I am and ho

“Having it Out with Melancholy”

"Pharmaceutical wonders are at work but I believe only in this moment of well-being. Unholy ghost, you are certain to come again. Coarse, mean, you’ll put your feet on the coffee table, lean back, and turn me into someone who can’t take the trouble to speak; someone who can’t sleep, or who does nothing but sleep; can’t read, or call for an appointment for help. There is nothing I can do against your coming. When I awake, I am still with thee."

Facing Facts

Alright tis the season and all that. I know I am not the only one dealing with the holidays and problems too.   This week I lost a friend in a senseless accident. Sort of makes you stop and look at things. Then while I am in that raw sort of state another friend is dealing with an impending death and I know it is making his life hard.   The day after the accident I get a message from someone I had become close to. Alright, someone I had fallen for if I am going to be honest with myself, and

Trials and Tribulations

Chapter 9 will be posted soon.   I've been thinking of putting the story on hold until after the Holidays. But I thought it would be best to have some input from you the reader. Please let me know what you think about the story going on hold and what you think of the direction the story is headed in.   ~Billy~

Writing Mothers

This is going to come as a surprise to some of you but I have trouble writing female characters. For some reason they fall flat and seem one deminsional. I especially have trouble writing mothers. Incase you didn't notice, Mrs. Hanover in It Was A... didn't have much screen time. There was a reason for this. None of the females did. Again, a reason for this. I really do suck at it.   Now I'm facing it again. I'm making this mother (who is french catholic) sound Italian.. or Jewish. I'

Looks like my old buddy Rattler wants to talk. Send: We acknowledge and are standing by. Then send our position.”   As Danny was keying in the text transmission he said, “Who is Rattler”?   Crash laughed and said, “The second craziest pilot I've ever met. His name is Hiro

Into every life . . . .

For those who follow my gallery, I've basically been doing a picture blog of life with Lil' Q instead of writing it down. I'm taking to heart 'a picture is worth a thousand words' and just putting a bit of commentary to go with my 1000 word credit.   Yesterday I learned my mom has breast cancer. Good news is it is VERY small, they caught it very early. Bad news is, of the different types, hers is the most aggressive. Amidst all our good fortune, we got blindsided with this. I suspect str

Weirdest Dream Ever

This is so bizarre that I decided to write it down. Just for the record, I'm not afflicted with Bieber fever.   I'm not sure why but everybody was in the Army. I was an instructor at boot camp and one of my victims, I mean trainees was none other than Justin Bieber.   I asked him what was he doing here, he's Canadian. He said that he had dual citizenship so he got drafted too.   After teaching my trainees how to field strip and AR-14, we had some range time. I showed them how to fire three

Writing took forever but ....

Between being sick, working massive hours, and trying to keep up with my own stories, well I've fallen a bit behind. I do apologize. I won't even get into the holidays, the cooking and the rest of it.   For most stories on GA I've gotten smart. i write the whole story out, beginning to end, hand it over to my editors and betas, and let them go to town. That way when I say I'm going to post every Monday, Tuesday, or whatever, I can do it.   However, I haven't been able to do that with Acciden

age and wisdom

Am I really old?   Old men like to give good precepts to console themselves for being no longer able to give bad examples (La Rochefoucauld).   Does this quote really apply to me? It is true that I tend to relate my experiences, the result of a long working life, with its good and bad times. I feel like I have learned lessons that I like to give to others. But I have always done so and I even made it by profession. This is certainly not a feature of my great age.   My problem now, especia

A step back

I probably am one of the strongest adherent to conservatism and have fought many on principle. Yet, I feel like maybe we should take a breath to relax. I know how hard our lives can be, how difficult circumstances have made us colder and more alien, but in the end, we're not here to write and focus our ideals into something greater than ourselves. We are here to write out our creations, whether they are based on our thoughts, motives, political ideologies, symbolic histories, or whatever your he
