Weekly Wrap Up (Jul. 12 - Jul. 18)

    By wildone

We had an interesting discussion last week with the Weekly Wrap Up. I see the weather has broke in some places and yet others is getting worse 😮  Up here in Canada, it is so hot and dry we are burning up. Over 1000 wildfires going on right now   I wouldn't go camping now unless it was on a river or lake shore.  So back to one of the parts of the camping theme, I mentioned about swimming. So if you never went camping, or you like 5 star service in a hotel or you camped on a lake or you

Guess What! You Won't Make It To Fifty

Some of you know I have health issues. I haven't spelt them out because frankly it's boring to hear about people's complaints, especially from people who aren't in your immediate family or circle of friends.   But my doctors have given me a time frame of my life expectancy. I guess I was surprised, but I wasn't either. I've faced death on a few occasions but wow, a time frame is kind of unnerving. It's scary. Michael is .. I don't know what he is .. sad, afraid.. mourning me already? He vows

A Tale Of Two Birthdays

I'm gonna tell you an interesting fact about my family.   On 11 February 1987, my eldest sister was born. On 12 February 1997, my little brother was born.   So this means, that for two days in a row, my family gets to eat a lot of cake! And what makes this year more fun (aside from my sister turning thirty and my brother twenty), is that it's on the weekend!   I wonder how much weight I'll gain by the end of the weekend? lol.       PS: Heeding Krista's advice, I didn't tease my sist

In Praise Of Editors ...

And beta-readers, for that matter.   My editor and I had a slight blip a couple of months ago. I was about to publish my second prompt response when I realised that my main character changed his name halfway through. Neither of us had noticed. In the same prompt, I committed a style faux-pas which had also passed my editor by. He wasn’t impressed with himself and suggested that the next blog post I wrote, should be used to comment on his editorial abilities. So, I’m doing so, just not quite in

Alone In Bed

So, I’m going to share with you something I don't normally share much - though my characters share their sex lives with you often and graphically. Several of them are quite the exhibitionists!   But we're not here to talk about the boys, the men, and the demons, we're here for me. Now, people tell you all sorts of less-than-fun things when you get married, about how life in the bedroom slowly diminishes and all of that. But it's not true for us. Three years has already flown by, and everything

Being Gay And Seeking Definition

This was going to be a review of James Franco's movie I am Michael, a biopic about Michael Glatze, the former gay youth advocate turned Ex-gay poster boy with a wife turned Fundamentalist anti-homosexual christian pastor, and now deeply lost as both his far right allies abandoned him and he abandoned his old LGBT friends.   I know I am gay, I tried dating girls when I was younger who were more masculine in reflection now (high school basketball forward), but not everyone is universally aligned

Cooking For One

Sorry Delia Smith, but One is not Fun. Cooking for one is, after lack of sex, company, and bedtime snuggles, the worst thing about Cris being away is cooking for fucking one.   I would rather not eat than cook for one. I would rather, and generally do, sit on the sofa and eat carrot sticks, chips, and dip, rather than cook for one. To be perfectly honest, I would rather starve than cook for one. I swear there is no more depressing task in the universe.   I don't know how you all do it. I ass

Dividing And Conquering

Sometime in 2009 or before, I was home alone with my son when my phone rang. We had caller id on a huge globe, and the caller was listed as "Victoria, BC" with a number I didn't recognize. I let the answering machine get the call. The message, from a woman, was "Where are you babe? I miss you. I love you." I thought it was a wrong number as my phone number was unlisted. Except I discovered that hubby had forgotten his personal cell phone, which was ringing with a call from the same number. A m

Kemal, The Story Of An Eastern Prince....

A song I like - and so it was also the first greek song I tried to sing in my favorite Greek restaurant. There exists a much different version in english, more like a nonsense /fun kids song.

Presidential Inaguration

Forty years ago today, on January 20, 1977, I stood on the grounds of the Capitol freezing my butt off. The same weather system which had brought snow to my hometown of Miami the previous day had dumped inches of the white stuff on the nation’s capital; the cold seeped through the soles of my shoes making me shiver and bringing my group of friends into a huddle seeking warmth. Try having your feet stuck in snow for hours, when you’re used to warm South Florida winters, and you’ll know how uncomf

Circus

Waking up on a cold winter Sunday - the first news flash on my mobile tells me that Ringling Brod. Circus is shutting down after more than 100 years of operations. What a shame! I've never seen them, but I understand it IS a national heritage. In good times and in bad, bringing joy to not only kids but families, all of America. One needs to go back in time to really get thet feeling of" The Circus Is Coming Into Town"   On Awesomedude.com Seth Newman gives us a glimpse into the world of circus

Over When It's Over

So, my husband has gone away again. Work need him to be in Canada for four whole weeks. He left this morning. Neither of us even pretended to be anything other than devastated. We don't do well apart, over ten years of seeing each other everyday, living together, buying a house and raising our boy together will do that to a couple.   Four long weeks.   Don't get me wrong, I'm more grateful than anyone outside my head could know for the life I have, for the love we share, for the job which of

Support Your Local Author

A little while ago, Cole Matthews offered the following on a status update: This weekend will be slated for reading anthology stories. For the New Year, support your fellow writers.   That really struck a chord with me - For the New Year, support your fellow writers.   What a great resolution. So how many of us do it?   I'm busy, full-time job, full-time husband, part-time writer. I've beta-read for people and invest a lot of time in that - as do many others here. That's part of my respons

Life Goes As It Goes

I haven’t been working on the next chapter for 319 because I have been working on a possible short story for another site during the past week. I know I should be working on 319, but I’m focused on this other story. It involves a young teen who decides to run away from home, hoping to connect with his uncle in Fresno, California. The only problem is that he hasn’t quite figured out how he is going to get in contact with his uncle.   And, then a favorite song comes up:     That’s the pro

Flash Of A Gone Lifestyle

2016 was really one hell of a good year for me. My life was thrown for a tailspin at the end of 2015, so I really was forced to get myself together in a way I had never really had to in my young adult life. One thing I learned, and now fiercely value and protect, is my independence. I relied way too much on other people, and put all my eggs in a basket I couldn't control. When that basket fell and all the eggs cracked, I was left with nothing I had before and had to rebuild. I've come to realize

I Tried To Go See Rogue 1 Today

I finally got around to going to see Rogue 1 today.   Before I could, there was an unfortunate incident with the previews!   I was appalled and disgusted! Since 2000, there have been two Spider Man origin stories and sequels. Now they'll be a third. No wonder I don't go to the movies very often. THEY KEEP MAKING THE SAME DAMN ONE OVER AND OVER!     Speaking of making the same damn movie over and over again, the very next preview is Michael Bay's fifth installment on the Transformers

Moving On

I found this site initially back in 2004. I'd read a story on Nifty and an author said new chapters would first be posted here. I didn't join until 8 years later in 2012. Must have had other things on my mind like college and guys. I was only a member about 4 months before I joined the staff. I've really enjoyed being a staff member and serving in a number of roles the last 4 years. I've met some amazing people, built lifelong friendships, shed many tears at the loss of beloved members, and hope

The First Page And The Last Page

Today I want to talk about something which mostly everyone thinks doesn't affect me, and much of the time, I am lucky, and I pass by writer's block like a freight train running on a different track while I sit in comfort and tap away on something which more resembles the shinkansen. But to say I have never felt that dread of not starting right, or not finishing, would be a terrible lie.   I'm good at lying, but I don't want to lie to you.   Let's talk about The Last Page, Final Chapters, The

Giveaway! Paperback Of Help! My Lover's An Alien

*Posted With Permission*   Happy New Year Everyone   In the later part of 2016 I decided to self-publish my story Help! My Lover’s an Alien. I did a few corrections, and fixed a couple of consistency errors. Then, I added it to Amazon Paperback and Kindle (including KU) and as they wouldn’t let me post it for free I am giving all the money I receive from sales to a charity called Stonewall that supports LGBTQ youths in the UK and abroad. The current total is over £20 raised.   Pl
