Invnarcel Posted October 7, 2025 Posted October 7, 2025 I want to write another piece of gay fiction but can't pin my inspiration down. So what do you all WANT to read more of??? As a starting point. High school, college, older? Fluff or angst? Psychological? What are the gay fics you get excited about reading the most? A lot of smut? 50/50 smut? Or rare smut? Just any ideas, anything at all will help me. 5
Popular Post kbois Posted October 7, 2025 Popular Post Posted October 7, 2025 Write what you want to write. That magic unicorn story that everyone likes doesn't exist. So...... let your imagination dictate what gets put into writing. Most authors have a favorite genre that they are comfortable with. If you want to try something different, take a look at the prompts that come out on Thursdays. Watch for writing events like the Secret Author and Anthologies. They're great for inspiration. As for smut... there's no right or wrong but there can be too much. When in doubt dial it back a notch or two. Make your readers use their imaginations. Good luck! 6

The best advice I ever was told and keep telling myself is to write stories that I want to read. That means I'm taking care in the characters, plot, themes, and it will carry me to stay motivated in the world and characters created in the process. The worst thing you can do is allow outside voices that aren't as invested be at the forefront of your decisions when they do not have to be. Hope this helps. 4

If you start down this road, you're going to get responses from people who each like something different. Then what are you going to do? The advice to write what you like and/or are interested in is right. You are the author, do it your way, it's your story. 5

It will be about two boys who are afraid to say that they love each other. They both are racers and they are teammates. They both want each other's, but they can't talk to each other. I have a few other stories in my head. One is a president's son who is in love with the House Speaker's son. (Different Parties). Another story is family who owns a resort in Florida.... 2
ReaderPaul Posted January 5 Posted January 5 @Invnarcel, write what you want, but you did ask what some of would like to see. I like stories with a science fiction or fantasy touch, but also like stories where high school or college students are dealing with sometimes conflicting emotions regarding their sexuality. One thing I rarely see on GA -- stories featuring bisexual males as major characters. Perhaps not as the main character, but in a supportive role to a main character. I have seen some authors do such stories well, but I am not aware of very many here on GA. I also like stories about older people mentoring younger by being available to listen and, sometimes, give advice as requested. Some stories by @Dabeagle are really good examples of this, but he also has wonderful stories of peers encouraging and assisting peers, and sometimes also some amazing good stories touching on themes sometimes though of as fantasy. @Geron Kees has some good stories about guys dealing with their sexuality and deciding what to do about it. @Cynus has some great stories of teens dealing with their sexuality. There are others -- but these come to mind as shining examples of possibilities. There are some of the types of stories often appealing to me. Other tastes are almost certain to vary. 2

My current story has a bi-sexual co-main protagonist. I know you said some authors do such stories well, I am not one of those writers/righters but I did attempt it. *shameless plug* 1 2

I also have pansexual Levi from Jay and Jack from Semi Charmed Life is a bisexual character that presents as heteroflexible. Just saying. 1 2
ReaderPaul Posted January 7 Posted January 7 @Jason Rimbaud and @CassieQ -- please PM me at your convenience with the suggested reading order of the stories you write featuring bi characters. Thank you! Also, if there are other stories in a series preceding those, please let me know about those, as well. 1

He has a girlfriend and based on reasons, (I won't get into it as it's part of the plot) he begins a relationship with his best friend, another male. His girlfriend is featured and he's a true bisexual (not confused) but his relationship isn't really explored. She is only a minor character. It's called Frosted Hearts and the link is in my signature. 1

But I have it on good authority that Jordan from Not The Sun is @Jason Rimbaud's favorite character of all time. 1

So my only regret when I read your story, I had not yet learned how to phrase things, or communicate via this site. If I would have read it today, I'd comment differently. Your story was one of the first ones that I really enjoyed on here. I loved the story, I was just a bit over zealous in my comments. 1 2

Just some friendly ribbing. We need to stand united for bisexual main characters. 1 2
ReaderPaul Posted January 8 Posted January 8 @Jason Rimbaud, I am now in the process of reading Frosted Hearts. Just finished the first chapter, and I like it. 1

Please don't go raising that bar into astounding, I'll crack under the pressure. . 3

Though one relationship ends and he starts a new one. I just posted Chapter Two of that story. 1 1
