timmy's poetry - 16. Unwary

times they are a-changing

Forever seems so long

Is what I've done right?

Is it the devil you know?

I love you, but is that enough?

All around me is advice

People who waffle and wait

What are we waiting for?

I can be tomorrow, on that train

You set me adrift alone

With maybe a second thought

People have hurt me before

Alone always, I'll climb back up

'Cause suicide ain't painless

Love steals and bankrupts the unwary

But I can't live like you do

Silence is crueler than the slap

After reading the comments, I now understand more of the meaning of those verses.  And I make a solemn promise to myself, never subject another person to the silent treatment (unless they are monsters themselves) ...  I haven't realised how cruel it could be ...

Yeah it can hurt. I've never been good at being silent. Sometimes trying to be is good, you can learn a lot about yourself. But to resolve problems. ..talking not silence is the key. Thanks hoho!

To be honest, I don't know what to say a lot of times. This is one of those. Those feelings totally resonate with me. I hope these will do a good job of expressing what I feel :hug::hug::hug::kiss:

Sometimes with poetry you need to let it soak in. You won't always have an immediate reaction you can put into words, at least I don't.  Often have to read several times and 'let it perk' before I can. Some are immediate, so don't be afraid to take your time. Thanks for reading and your comments.

@mayday.. do you not see it?  because i did.. clear as day ... i took your words... made only a few changes:

so far away that I cannot offer support or shoulder

your hurt is one my thoughts cannot imagine.

Feelings diminish vast distances to nothing,

the Atlantic wanes into a small stream

that might be crossed in one leap.

The final sentence has left me reeling.

I know how much silence can hurt us

it drives our loneliness home,

and leaves us with only ourselves

nothing between me and the void that life is - can be

you make me blush, my friend, your words called forth mine but I did not see it - your few changes have made me listen to my own words in a different way - thank you for such encouragement - totally unlooked for, too - your poem has become a bag of seeds

:) you have great turn of phrase, ..your poem has become a bag of seeds .. how beautiful that is ... you should let yourself write. On paper or on Word and see what you can do ... when i wrote spectors.. it didn't start as a poem .. that night i knew i was sliding and i wrote it, but it wasn't quite like what i posted.  sometimes it's best to leave things, which is why i save a lot things that may never see the light of day again, yet if they are there, they may.  and removing words is often needed to make what you say more powerful.   don't be afraid to contact me if you have questions...
